Meeting Minutes 3-12-2018
Meeting Attendees: Diane Winegar, Amy Cain, Hilary Kent, Jennifer Brunz, Marni Moule, Shane Baier, Alison Carlson, Cherise Barker, Stacie Smith, Aric Attig, Holly Evans, Gina Vanselow.
Meeting Minutes Approved: Marni M. (1), Hilary K. (2)
Principal Report: Shane gave an update on the leadership culture program. There was a coaching day held for those involved. It was mostly a check-in to see how things are going and how to reach the desired outcomes.
Playground Hopes and Dreams team met and decided that a spider was the best piece of equipment to work towards. Other ideas can be funded from other programs. The next step is to meet with district facilities to choose what style and then to get a fundraising commitment from the PTO once we know the cost of the project.
Teacher Report: Aric Attig attended to introduce himself and to say thank you for the PTO’s support with the Jump Rope for Heart event and helping to fund the roller skating unit of P.E. He also wanted to let us know that when roller skating is done next, the price will increase due to the current contract expiring.
Math night is on March 15th along with the book fair. Pizza is at 6 pm with stations throughout the school and also a Leader in Me presentation. Amy says all is handled for the math event and thank you for the geo boards that the PTO purchased.
The teachers would also like to have mints/gum during testing. Casey will work on that.
Request for Funding: 1st grade is going to the Children’s Museum and are asking for the use of their field trip budget and their classroom budget to help fund this. There will be an extra $66.50 above that they are asking the PTO to cover from the general fund. This is due to having more students than previous years and the museum rates have increased. After discussing whether to ask parents to pay $1 per student, a motion was made to cover the extra. Cherise B. (1) and Hilary K. (2) to pass. All approved.
Treasurer’s Report: Casey bought a safe box since the one we had previously used could not be located.
Walkathon incentives have been purchased for $140.36
We purchased 4 gift cards to give to families of students and teachers that had a death or difficult news in their home.
The email vote for funding the 5th grade field trip to the Writers and Artists Conference passed. This was funded from their classroom budget, their field trip budget and $245 out of the general fund. Parents were asked to pay $5 towards the ticket price so that kept the extra amount asked for down.
Committee Reports: The Box Tops contest winner was Mrs. Pearson’s class with 915. The total submitted was 3935 which will give us a check for $393.50 The class wins a trophy, a PTO sponsored prize, and $50 extra in Scholastic dollars to use at the next book fair. We will try another one in the fall.
HyVee receipts are going well. February will bring in $84 alone.
Milk Moolah caps were sent in for $196.95.
The Labels for Education points were used to buy crayons, glue, chalk, gator skin balls and volleyballs for Mr. Attig and Ms. Wolfe. There are still 2342 points left and Jen will get a few more things ordered to get that finished.
Events: Conference meals will again be provided by Mankato Originals and Simply Delicious. Diane will get a Sign-Up Genius made for any extras we will need provided.
Diane, Casey and Marni will take care of Teacher Appreciation.
Eileen and Casey will present at Kindergarten Round-Up.
Walkathon: There is a plan to add 5 minutes to be able to run the mile. The times and groups have been changed. The 4th and 5th will run together first, K and 1st next and then 2nd and 3rd last. This will start at 1:30 and end by 2:30. We are planning on the fundraising goal to be $10,000 but may push for more with the playground plan. There will be an eat out fundraiser at BWW in April. Donation envelopes will be printed and sent out after spring break.
Wrap Up: We are looking to support the Crayon Initiative to help recycle old crayons. Boxes will be given to the classrooms around the end of the school year to help collect them.
Elections for PTO Secretary and President Elect will be held at the May meeting. Our current President Elect (Eileen Campbell) will move into the President position and our Treasurer (Casey Neitzel) will stay on for another term. Nominations will start during the April meeting.
Next meeting will be on April 9th at 6:30 pm. Motion to adjourn made by Amy C, Cherise B. (2).
You can help raise money for Washington Elementary School
It’s easy to support your school with items you already use in your home or receipts from stores you already patronize! Below is a list of the collection programs we are currently participating in.
Feel free to send any of the following to school with your student or there is a set of drawers in the hallway next to the lost and found to drop any of them off.
Each box top through Box Tops for Education is worth 10 for our school. If each student turned in just 10 box tops during the year the school would receive around $400. Watch for Bonus Tops on participating products or as a coupon from your store purchase. Go to www.boxtops4education.com to sign up, enter sweepstakes and to see a list of the participating products. Box tops do expire so be sure to turn them in on time!
Through Kwik Trip’s Milk Moola program, each milk/juice cap and bag top is worth 5 cents. Please remember to rinse the caps and bag tops before turning them in.
With Campbell’s Label’s for Education program, the school can earn points to purchase items for the classrooms and gym/art equipment. Remember when clipping be sure to keep the point value logo and the UPC (barcode) together. The face of the can label is NOT redeemable, only the UPC portion of the label. Go to www.labelsforeducation.com to see a list of participating products.
Save your Hy-Vee receipts from both Mankato locations and they will donate $1 for every $150 spent through the Hy-Vee Kash 4 Kids program. The receipts must be dated during the current school year (Sept. 2016- May 2017) to qualify. Every little bit will add-up!
