Board of Trustees Approves Updated 2020-2021 Instructional Calendar
The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees approved an updated 2020-2021 Instructional Calendar Thursday night, turning three calendar days into teacher work days/student holidays.
With the newly approved calendar, October 30, November 13 and December 18 (previously a half-day) are now full student holidays that will give teachers and staff an opportunity to plan and prepare for instruction, communicate with students and parents, grade assignments and input grades, and create and load content in the learning management systems (for both remote and quarantined students).
This instructional calendar change will be accomplished by using minutes already built into the calendar, and it will not extend the school year. Camp Fire, which hosts after-school care for Aledo ISD elementary campuses, will offer paid child care for any Aledo ISD student in grades K-6 on those dates. Parents and guardians can find information and register at https://www.campfirefw.org/after-school/aledo-isd/.
Aledo ISD Flu Shot Clinic October 19-23
The Aledo ISD and the Parker County Hospital District will host flu shot clinics at each AISD campus the week of October 19-23 for AISD students, staff and parents.
As parents are not permitted to accompany their children at morning campus shot clinics due to COVID-19 health and safety protocols, AISD and PCHD will offer a Family Flu Shot Night from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 21, near the MPC gym at Aledo Middle School (near the tennis courts).
Flu shots are free for children 18 years and younger. Adults can pay a $20 flat fee for a flu shot or request for insurance to be billed.
Please print, fill out and bring this form with you to the flu shot clinic to expedite the process:

DNGC Students Learn About Hispanic Heritage Month Through Art
Inspired by Hispanic Heritage Month, Ms. Diaz’s Daniel Ninth Grade art classes spent two weeks creating and learning about Mexican Folk Art.
Diaz’s classes created Amate Bark Paintings where they wet paper, crumbled it and spread it out, and let it dry over a weekend before creating their own brightly colored scenes of nature, mostly animals or other creatures. Amate is a type of paper produced from the bark of fig trees, and artisans often paint birds, colorful plants and animals on amate for decoration.
Also during the two-week period, Diaz’s students studied Hispanic artists, watched live drawings by Hispanic artists, and went on a virtual tour of the National Museum of Mexican Art in Chicago. Hispanic Heritage Month is from September 15 through October 15 each year.
AISD Participates in SAT School Day
For the first time ever, Aledo ISD will be participating in SAT School Day and offering the SAT test free of charge to students.
All seniors – about 440 students – will be taking the SAT on campus during SAT School Day on October 14 and 27 since they were not offered SAT School Day last spring due to COVID-19. All juniors will take the SAT this spring for free during designated school days, and each year following the 2020-2021 school year, juniors will take the SAT in the spring.
