SNIP ITS FROM SANDI
100th Day of School is almost here!
We will be celebrating the 100th day of school on January 22, 2018! Our Kindergarten and first grade students will be completing math activities that revolve around the number 100. Please refer to the grade level newsletter for specific information.
Meet our new 1st Grade Teacher:
We have a new teacher that is here to support our students in first grade! Mr. Ho has been working with the first grade team over the past two weeks to get to know the students. He will be supporting students in reading, writing and math. Mr. Ho completed his student teaching at Suwanee Elementary during first semester and recently graduated from Georgia State University. Welcome, Mr. Ho!
NOTES FROM NIX
Results from the 1st, 2nd, and 5th grade CogAT and the 2nd and 5th grade IOWA tests are in students’ report card envelopes.
Students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades will be completing the Georgia Health Survey the week of January 22nd. Options for opting out of the survey will be provided by your child’s homeroom teacher.
FOCUS ON FOCUS
1ST GRADE
Ms. Stockton’s 1st Grade: For the next 2 weeks, students will review counting coins and making equivalent sets of coins. Example: Amy has 4 dimes and 5 nickels. John has 5 dimes and 4 nickels. Do they have the same amount of money? You can review with your child at home by doing these types of problems. Remember, our first graders need to be able to count coins up to one dollar.
2ND GRADE
Ms. Stagman’s 2nd Grade: We are beginning our next unit called "Unleash the Power." Students will be learning to identify sources of energy and assume the role of energy engineers to investigate how we can use renewable forms of energy in our school, home, and community.
3RD GRADE
Ms. Phillip’s 3rd Grade: Students finished up designing their zoos this week. Next week, students will use their knowledge of opinion writing to write a speech convincing people to visit their zoo over other zoos to present to the class.
4TH GRADE
Ms. Pristupa’s 4th Grade Focus students are engaged in numeracy and literacy activities that are selected specifically for them. Take a minute to ask your child about their math project. With a variety of learning experiences occurring in class, students are challenged to think beyond their grade level learning targets.
5TH GRADE
Ms. Jones’ 5th Grade: We are analyzing the costs of crops to make connections to the decline of agriculture during the Great Depression. Students are using reasoning and critical thinking to plot, calculate area, and discover costs of crops.

Safety and Security
All schools have safety and security plans. The plans are designed with the help of school security and support staff members, as well as local law enforcement, emergency management, and public health officials. Plans are reviewed and updated regularly. These plans include procedures to respond to critical incidents such as tornados, medical emergencies and criminal acts. All staff members are trained on procedures to handle issues related to safety and security.
