SPOTLIGHT: Thank You
SPOTLIGHT:
- To all of our parents who were/are able to come to Parent/Teacher conferences. We appreciate your partnership in learning.
- To the parent volunteers who help us daily. And, to the parents who make donations of time, treats, and greetings to remind us that we make a difference.
- To all of our staff, who take great pride in working with Beall students.
- To our students, who allow us the privilege of working with them every day.
With Appreciation...
We recognize that many families wish to share their appreciation with staff by giving holiday gifts. Although Beall staff members do not expect to receive gifts, we are extremely appreciative of the holiday wishes. MCPS policy prohibits staff from accepting gifts from individuals that are greater than twenty (20) dollars in value or more than one hundred dollars cumulatively in a calendar year. This value limit is per individual and does not reflect group’s collective efforts. Please contact school administrators if you need clarification.
Outdoor Dining Update
As the cooler weather becomes more consistent, we will soon pause the student option for Outdoor Dining through the colder winter months.
Dressing for the weather
Brrrr….Tis the Season!
Please be sure children dress appropriately for the weather. Consider layering clothes as the temperature may vary from room to room. Children will have outdoor recess unless the temperature is extremely frigid. As the weather begins to turn cooler, students often shed their warm jackets, gloves, and sweatshirts during recess. As a result, our Lost & Found grows throughout the winter months. We encourage you to label everything.
Clothes Donations Welcome!
Health Room staff welcome donations of clothes that your child may have outgrown that would fit a school-aged student. We appreciate pants, sweatpants, t-shirts, long sleeve shirts or sweatshirts, socks or even new packages of underwear for boys and girls.
Staffing Update
- Mrs. Mahoney has decided to extend her maternity leave for the remainder of the year. Mrs. Roussel will continue to serve as her long-term substitute teacher.
- Mrs. Barton will also continue to be on maternity leave for the remainder of the year. We are excited to have Ms. Rebecca Krakaur join our staff as our long-term substitute. Known as Ms. K to our students, Ms. Krakaur has been working with our students since August as a para educator. She is excited to get to know students in all grade levels.
- Ms. Lehrman has left Beall to begin a new position at another school. We appreciate her time and dedication to our students as Mrs. Barton's long-term substitute from August through early November. She knows she will miss her Beall students but was committed to serving another community.
- Ms. Dominguez, cafeteria worker, recently accepted a new position in MCPS.

Please Be Aware of Head Lice
Several families have reported individual cases of head lice. A commonly identified condition in preschool and elementary-aged children, head lice are parasitic insects found on the heads of people. Anyone who comes in close contact (especially head-to-head contact) with someone who has head lice is at greatest risk. Occasionally, head lice may be acquired from contact with clothing or personal items that belong to an infested person. Personal hygiene or cleanliness in the home or school has nothing to do with getting head lice. Here are some ways you can identify and/or prevent head lice:
- Be alert for the signs of head lice- this may include a tickling feeling or a lot of scratching on the back of the neck or head.
- Inspect- examine the hair and scalp of all family members regularly throughout the year, but especially in cooler months when hats and jackets are worn frequently
- Treat- there are many treatments available. Please feel free to contact the health room directly for more information.
- Clean the Environment- Check other household members. Wash all washable clothing and bed linens that may have been worn/used by the infected individuals. Clean combs and brushes. Additional information and suggestions available.
- Prevent a Reinfestation- This may happen through head-to-head contact or when sharing clothes such as hats, scarves, jackets, and hair accessories.
Please contact the Health Room if you have any questions. Additional information can be found at:
