Pennies for Patients
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is the world’s largest non-profit health organization dedicated to finding cures for blood cancers. The Pennies for Patients program is for elementary and middle schools that would like to support the mission to create a world without cancer.
To add a bit of spice to the week, the student council made up spirit days to go along with each day. The themes are as follows:
Monday: Pennies for Pajamas
Tuesday: Neon for Nickels
Wednesday: Dazzling Dimes (Dress in your sparking outfits or wear something that makes you unique)
Thursday: Crazy Quarters (Wear your crazy hats)
Friday: Team up for Leukemia (Dollars and any coins)
Hooray! Hoosier Projects are Complete!
This past week:
In math, we have extended our knowledge with angles and fractions. We explored the ways a hockey player can use the walls of the rink to assist with shots taken or even assists. The main goal was to identify different ways we can use angles in different ways in our lives. We are also splitting our time in math to work on our Putt-Putt course designs.
In reading and writing, we wrapped up our Hoosier Heritage projects - as you are all well aware. We were exhausted Friday, but beyond proud of the effort given and passion presented at the showcase.
In science, we are continuing our class observations of our live animals. Also, your child was extremely proud to FINALLY deliver the plants they have been growing for their mommas. It has been a long month caring tenderly for those plants. They were beaming on Friday to finally take them home.
Coming up next!
Math: We will continue extending concepts learned throughout the year and working on our putt-putt courses.
Reading: We will continue to work with non-fiction texts connected to history. We will also look into the Indy 500 throughout the next two weeks. The IMS sent us a few activities that will build our skills while we prepare for the race!
Science: We will finally combine a few environments this week. Fingers crossed it all goes well!
