Mission Statement
New Picnic Tables
Since our cafeteria will be functioning at half capacity for lunches, the SJCS PTO Board agreed to purchase 9 new picnic tables for our campus. These new picnic tables will be strategically placed so that students can eat outside occasionally when the weather is more comfortable later this fall. Thank you to our PTO Board and to all families who supported PTO fundraisers this past school year.
Three pallets containing boxes of picnic tables have been delivered to campus. We are looking for some parent volunteers to assist in assembling the picnic tables. We can use volunteers at anytime that is convenient for you. Please email Mrs. Haas at thaas@stjosephwhschool.org if you can assist. Volunteers are asked to bring wrenches or socket sets.
Welcome Back Teachers!
Even though many teachers have been attending virtual professional development and working in their classrooms for weeks, they officially returned to work earlier this week. For the next three weeks, teachers will participate in a variety of meetings and trainings that include protocols and procedures regarding Covid-19, preparing for the academic needs of our students and some vertical planning, technology training, and much more. Please keep our teachers in your prayers for productive meetings to prepare for another amazing school year.

Reminders
- The 2020-2021 SJCS Calendar is now posted to our school website. Visit stjosephwhschool.org to access the calendar.
- School Supply Lists have been distributed and can be found on the school website (stjosephwhschool.org).
- All students entering first through eighth grade have summer homework. Whether students are physically coming to school or will be learning from home, it is very important that summer homework is completed before the first day of school.
- Masks are required by all persons kindergarten and older when visiting the campus.
- All students (except VPK) must be in school uniform. The final uniform sale, before school starts, is this Saturday, August 8th from 9am until 12pm.
- Students may bring a water bottle to school to drink from throughout the school day. Bottles must be see through and contain only water (if the bottle is tinted, that is fine if the teacher can see that the liquid is only water. Please note that we are planning to replace water fountains with bottle refill stations. So, students will not be able to get water from a water fountain during the day. IT IS CRITICAL THAT ALL BOTTLES BE CLEARLY LABELED WITH STUDENT NAMES. DUE TO THE VIRUS, BOTTLES FOUND LAYING AROUND WITHOUT NAMES WILL BE IMMEDIATELY DISCARDED TO ELIMINATE THE SPREAD OF GERMS.
Recommendations
The following recommendations come from discussions with teachers over the past couple days as we talk about returning to school:
- In an effort to eliminate the need for adults to touch student's food items in their lunchbox, it is recommended that families begin having picnics and practice at home with the younger students. Help your children to learn to open his/her own lunchbox and containers within. Don't forget to have them practice opening and inserting straws into juice boxes. Of course our staff will help them, but we'd like to minimize the contact for he safety of your child.
- If your child is going to purchase lunch/milk from the kitchen, have them practice opening milk cartons.
- Have your child practice wearing masks at home. Begin with short time increments and work to extend the time they are wearing masks a little each day.
- Begin labeling everything - school supplies, uniforms, etc.
