"Educating the whole child: mind, body and spirit!"

Big picture

Principal Corner

It's hard to believe that we are halfway through the first nine weeks of school. The students are well into their routines and have been working on what it looks like and sounds like to be their Bearkat BEST in every school setting. You have had the opportunity to attend Meet the Teacher, Curriculum Night and Parent-Teacher Conferences are this week. Many of you have been at school for PTO meetings and volunteering in various areas across the campus. We truly appreciate and welcome your partnership. When we're all working together, we are able to achieve our goals and educate the whole child: mind, body and spirit! It is such a blessing to be a part of a community that supports the school and all of its endeavors. We appreciate all of you!

Last year we started a new initiative entitled, "Pick 6." Each day, we spotlight six (one from each grade) amazing students and make a positive phone call home. It was such a HUGE hit, we kicked it off again this year on October 1. The inspiration for the idea came at the end of football season last year. You see, I am a HUGE football fan. For a football fan, there is nothing more exciting than to see your team's defense intercept a pass and return it for a touchdown, otherwise known as a pick 6. This aspect of the game got me to thinking about our students and how exciting it would be each day to have our own sort of PICK 6. So, the idea was born! When you see the school's number come up on your caller ID, it may be me calling to share some exciting news about your child.

Parent Teacher Conferences

Our superintendent, Mark Henry, has provided a note for your employer should this be required by your supervisor. Thank you for marking your calendar and making plans to attend.

College and Career

In October, we focus on college and career opportunities. Check with your child to see what they are learning!

  • Kinder & 1st: We will look at “Whose vehicle is this?” posters and discussed which careers those vehicles match. Each student will make a drawing of a person in that career!
  • 2nd: Students will pick items from a box and we will discuss which jobs/careers they would be used for. Some items were a pencil, walkie-talkie, dog leash, measuring tape, etc.
  • 3rd: Students will work in groups and choose a career doll to write about. Each group will share about why the career is important in our community and what strengths a person doing that job would have.
  • 4th: Did you know there are 8 different types of intelligence? Each student will complete a Learning Style Survey and then group together based on their highest intelligence area. We will discuss the strengths of a person with those kinds of smarts and which jobs they are likely to have.
  • 5th: Each student will complete an interest survey which will direct them toward a career cluster they may be interested in pursuing. Then we will share our results!
