Request to Exit PreAP/AP/Dual Credit/Dual Enrollment Courses
Students may submit a request for a level change during the following times:
- August 1st through 4:00 PM the Tuesday before the week school starts (August 13, 2019).
- Exit Window will open after the first 3 weeks IPR (Sept 6) and close at the end of the day on Sept 27th.
- The last five days of the first semester (Dec 16-20, 2019).
Exit Guidelines for PreAP and AP Courses
1. To exit a PreAP or AP course, parent/teacher/student conference must occur, and the student must confer with the counselor and principal or principal’s designee.
2. A student that exits out of a PreAP/AP course will retain this grade in the new course. If a student exits with a grade below 70 in the original course, this may impact their UIL eligibility. General Information 12
3. Depending on graduation requirements and credits needed, students attempting to drop an AP or PreAP course for which there is no academic equivalent may result in the student remaining in the course until the conclusion of the Semester.
4. Exiting a PreAP/AP course prior to the end of a semester will result in loss of weighted credit for the course. In order to exit an advanced course, the following must occur:
- Attend documented tutorials and have all assignments completed.
- Parent/Teacher/Student conference.
- Parent-student conference with campus administration/counselor.
- Complete the campus request form and submit it by the designated due date/time.
Requests that meet the established guidelines stated above can only be approved if there is a class available and the change does not exceed the class size limit designated by administration.
Ready for College
College Help
GO Center
The GO Center is a hub in the counseling office designed to create a college-going culture by equipping our students with resources to promote awareness of higher education.
G-Force Mentors
The G-Force is a group of UNT students who are employed to work with schools around North Texas to provide college enrollment guidance, academic tutoring, and peer mentoring. G-Force mentors support all students who plan to go to college, even those planning to attend colleges other than UNT. Our G-Force mentors are here every Thursday from 1:30-4:00 to help NHS students. To request a time with the G-Force, students need to email their NHS school counselor. They will then be sent a pass to come to the GO Center to meet with the G-Force.
Texas Tech Rep
We also have a Texas Tech Admissions Counselor, Adriana Almodova, who can meet with students to proved college admission guidance. She is available to our students every Tuesday during lunch in the cafeteria. To schedule a time with her, please email your NHS school counselor.
1st Gen Group
The NHS Counselors will be meeting with students they have identified as being first-generation in their family to go to college. This group will focus on connecting students with support and resources as they navigate the college process. Information will be sent out to students who may be 1st Gen soon.
