THE PARK VILLAGE WEEKLY
September 17, 2023
Attendance Awareness!
Help your child be an Attendance H.E.R.O.: Here. Everyday. Ready. On-time. Parent partnership is crucial to ensuring our students are receiving the full advantage of consistent school attendance. Students who attend school regularly are significantly more likely to achieve proficient academic levels in reading and math, do better on tests, as well as more likely to graduate and be successful in future endeavors. Help us accomplish this by:
Establishing consistent bedtimes and wake up times
Planning ahead to avoid scheduling appointments and vacations during school
Communicating with teachers regarding illnesses or religious/cultural holidays
Staying engaged and regularly checking in with your children about their experiences
Emphasizing the importance of attendance with your children
Reaching out to us for help to address any barriers to attendance
Thank you for your support and partnership!

Hiring
As you may have heard, Poway Unified School District is hiring! We are in need of some amazing people to come support our students across the district. Please share with friends and family in the area who may be interested. Our school community is currently looking for Instructional Assistants and an ESS employee. Come work with us!
Kindergarten Full Days
We are so excited to share that our kindergarteners will be going full-time next week. We are very happy that this group of littles will be on campus for the full school day; however, with this transition brings additional traffic. Thus, please be aware that the parking lot will be populated with additional vehicles and kindergarten parents will be walking their students to and fro when school is out at 2:45pm. Our school’s goal is to keep our campus and our students safe.
Hispanic Heritage Month
September 15 to October 15
Please join Park Village and PUSD in paying tribute to the generations of Hispanic Americans who have positively influenced and enriched our nation and society. Together we celebrate the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. Beginning in 1968, Hispanic Heritage Month was originally observed as “Hispanic Heritage Week, but it was later extended to a month in 1988. Since then, HHM has been celebrated nationwide through festivals, art shows, conferences, community gatherings, and much more.
This year’s theme is Building Prosperous and Healthy Communities. Building upon the theme each week focuses on how the Administration has been supporting the Latino community:
September 15: Hispanic Heritage Month Kick-Off Day
Week of September 19th: Jobs and the Economy
Week of September 26th: Climate
Week of October 3rd: Education and Investing in HSIs
Week of October 10th: Mental Health and Wellness
October 15: Last Day of Hispanic Heritage Month

Universal School Meals
Please Help Increase Our School Funding by Filling Out This Application
Although school meals are now free to all students, the application for free and reduced-price meals is still very important. School funding depends in part on the number of students at our school who qualify for free or reduced-price meals. With all students now eating for free, fewer families are completing the application and our school is at risk of losing much-needed educational funds. Plus, students who qualify for free or reduced-price meals may also be missing out on discounts on bus transportation, before and after school care, and home internet!
Even if you did not qualify before, but your income has changed, you may now qualify. For example, children from a family of four are eligible if the total gross (pre-tax) household income is less than $4,279 per month, or less than $51,338 per year. Household income information is confidential and applying online is quick and easy. Apply online at More Than a Meal, or pick up a paper application in the Front Office.
Park Village's School Site Council Has Two Empty Seats!
Dear Park Village Parents & Guardians,
Our Park Village School Site Council (SSC) for the 2023-2024 school year kick-off is just around the corner! If you are looking for a way to be involved, this just may be the opportunity for you. Our first meeting will be on Monday, September 25, at 6:00pm. It will take place on Zoom.
What is School Site Council (SSC)?
SSC is a committee of parents and staff members whose purpose is to make programmatic and budgetary decisions in support of educational goals set forth through the Park Village's SPSA (School Plan for Student Achievement) and the Poway Unified School District LCAP (Local Control and Accountability Plan) goals.
What does the SSC do?
The SSC helps to develop and monitor the school's SPSA. It evaluates program recommendations to ensure that they support the strategic plan and the goals of PUSD. In addition, it votes on funding requests for programs supported by the school budget, for example, materials and supplies for technology; new classroom materials; and school-wide programs.
What is the time commitment to participate in the SSC?
The School Site Council meets approximately 4 or 5 times during the school year. Meetings usually last approximately 90 minutes.
If you are interested in running to become a voting member of our council, please fill out this Google Form. This year we have two parent seats open for election.
Best!

Yearbook Photographers - Volunteers Needed
The yearbook depends on volunteer photo submissions. The more photos we have to choose from, the more successful the yearbook.
Please consider volunteering as the class photographer for your child's class, especially for class parties and special events.
In addition, we are looking for "Grade Level" photographers. The idea is to have at least two photographers per grade level. These grade level photographers can coordinate with the science, art and extra program teachers to find time to photograph their grade during the activity.
No professional photography skills or equipment required. If you have a good camera on your phone, you're good to go!
For more information, please contact Rachel Quinto, parkvillageyearbook@gmail.com

For first time volunteers, the process may take several weeks. It is highly suggested that first-time volunteers turn in the required paperwork to the school's front office when the school year begins.
