As a reminder, we do not accept specific teacher requests. However, we do welcome thoughts on the type of environment your child needs to be successful. Our amazing teachers work with student support team members and administration to create well-balanced and healthy classroom environments for all.
Thank you to all of the families who came out to support our Spring Spruce Up event on Saturday, April 21st. In addition to the beautiful outdoor landscaping, parents and staff members painted several interior walls of the school.
You may also notice that our building exterior has been power-washed (ridding us of the ugly white oxidation spots). Our county funded our request to clean and repaint part of our exterior. We are very appreciative!
Next Tuesday, May 8th Laurel Park will serve as a polling site for the NC Board of Election (primaries). We will host the BOE team in our cafeteria. All students will eat lunch in their classrooms. We will only allow traffic through the single cafeteria door that leads directly outside. During this time, we will also have one administrator and/or counselor observing the environment to ensure healthy communication.
Please join me on Friday, May 18th at 8:45 AM for our next Coffee Chat with the Principal. As always, thank you for supporting our school. Have a wonderful week ahead!
Kind Regards,
Mrs. Raleigh Bame

Social Emotional Learning: Coping Skills
The focus of our classroom guidance lessons in April & May is on Social Emotional Learning (SEL). Wake County Public Schools supports the whole child and has provided elementary schools with three SEL lessons to be taught to all 3rd-5th grade students. The objective of these lessons is to teach children life skills that can keep them safe and help them to make good decisions as they mature. Empowering students through exposure to positive coping skills will assist their success at home, school, and in the community. Here are the topics of each lesson:
Lesson 1: Managing Emotions
* Strength of emotions; strategies & coping skills
Lesson 2: Confident Problem Solving
* Connections between feelings, thoughts & behaviors; resolving interpersonal conflicts
Lesson 3: Review and Seek Resources
* Review self-discipline & coping skills; practice coping skills; identify resources at home & school
At Laurel Park, all lessons for 3rd grade have been completed. We are currently teaching 4th grade, and 5th grade will be taught in May.
If you would like more information about Social Emotional Learning at Laurel Park, or wish to speak with a school counselor, please contact us anytime!
