Spotlight on John Shelley

Andrea Brown Literary Agency Featured Illustrator

About John Shelley

John Shelley debuted as an illustrator in London before the lure of the East took him to Japan, creating art for the Tokyo design and publishing industry for over 20 years, on the way encountering ancient wooden towns, concrete jungles, cat walks, haunted forests, and ocean bottoms, most of which have inspired his children’s book illustrations.

He’s illustrated over 40 children’s titles to date, many of them for the Japanese and US markets. 2014 will see the release of The Stone Giant (Charlesbridge, USA/Komine Shoten, Japan), the story of Michelangelo’s creation of the statue of David.

In 2008 he returned to the UK and now lives in East Anglia. Bilingual in Japanese, he’s a former Board member of SCBWI and Assistant Regional Advisor in Tokyo.
