Egg Harbor Township High School
Week of November 13, 2022
A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL
As we head into the next month, many of us will reflect on what we are grateful and thankful for in our own lives. Next week, as a school, we will roll out our Week of Thanks. During this time, our teachers will provide lessons that focus on gratitude. Additionally, we are asking students to become more familiar with and complete the #Day 1 Upstander Pledge (linked).
This week, I would like to highlight Ms. Quinn and Mr. Kristeller’s annual 1920s Speakeasy project for the United States History II classes. Each student took part in making history come alive as they took on the persona of a 1920s personality from Emily Post to Charlie Chaplin. Students not only took on their personality as they interacted with one another, but also did a brief presentation. Today, the students in Ms. Cole’s French class is participating in a French Murder Mystery Project. They are excited to solve the crime of the century.
On the athletics front, I would like to congratulate the Girls Volleyball team for being recognized as a sportsmanship recipient. This speaks volumes about their competitive character. This award is voted on by the officials in the New Jersey Volleyball Officials Association - South on a yearly basis. It is also important to recognize the following students who have committed to play sports on the collegiate level. We will have two more signing day opportunities throughout the year for our seniors.
BASEBALL
Cameron Flukey - Coastal Carolina University
Justin Sweeney - Rutgers University
LACROSSE
Anna Smith - Furman University

STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT
Students of the Week
STUDENT: Colin Stevens
NOMINATED By: Mr. Passante
Colin is a hard worker. He always has a smile on his face no matter how difficult the task may seem to him.
STUDENT: Olivia Sheehan
NOMINATED By: Mrs. Medica
I saw Olivia pick up trash that someone left behind in the main foyer by the front door, I asked her if that was her trash and it was not. It is nice to see that we have students' in our school who have school pride and enough humility for her to pick up trash to keep our school beautiful.
Social Studies
Freshman begins the school year reading Start with Why by Simon Sinek that understand that the leaders who’ve had the greatest influence in the world all think, act, and communicate the same way—and it’s the opposite of what everyone else does. Students tap into their Golden Circle, and it provides a framework upon which organizations can be built, movements can be led, and people can be inspired. And it all starts with WHY. Take a look and see what our students wrote!
Silver Eagle Band
On Saturday, 11/5, the Silver Eagle Band with their show, Blood Moon, placed 5th out of 14 bands in group IV (76-99 members) at the Metlife Stadium US Bands Finals!

CLIMATE AND CULTURE
#DAY 1
The High School will be continuing with this bullying-prevention program for this school year!
#DAY1--a staff and student-led philosophy that will serve to foster a building-wide atmosphere of kindness and inclusion.
This program was started a few years ago in Bergen County by the Tyler Clementi Foundation and has gained momentum throughout the state and country for use in schools, community groups, workplaces, and sports teams.
The premise is simple: the adults in the building make a “declaration statement” about behavior that is expected, as well as behavior that is unacceptable, and we all pledge to conduct ourselves accordingly. This includes seeking help when we witness unacceptable behavior occurring.
This notion is called being an #Upstander
Has your student taken their #Upstander Pledge yet?!?
Have them sign into their school account and click here! 😊
If you'd like more information on #Day1, please go to: https://tylerclementi.org/day1/
