NO Cell Phone Policy During State Assessments
In an effort to reduce distractions and to ensure we are in compliance with Nebraska State Testing Procedures and Protocol, students will not be allowed to have their cell phones with them in a class when the NSCAS assessment is being administered. This will include any type of smart watch.
During NSCAS testing, your child will be asked to leave their cell phone in their locker during a class where testing is taking place. If the cell phone is not left in their locker or can’t be left in their locker, they can turn it in to the teacher for safe keeping for the duration of the class. Students are always welcome to leave their phone at home if neither option is acceptable.
There will be no exceptions for this procedure as the risk for a security breach due to phone usage during the test, even if a student reports they were texting a parent, is too high. Thank you for your support with this expectation.
Upcoming State Assessments
NSCAS (Nebraska Student-Centered Assessment System) testing will begin the week of March 25 and run through April 19. Each content area will be assessed in different weeks to ensure students are only testing for one block each day.
- Grades 5 and 8 will test in science the week of March 25.
- The math assessment will be given the week of April 1.
- No assessment will be given the week of April 8.
- The ELA assessment will be given the week of April 15.

Bobcat Camp
Bobcat Nation could not be more excited to meet our newest Bobcats! Recently, a letter containing information about two summer programs available at Alice Buffett Magnet Middle School was emailed by Mr. CK. One program is Bobcat Camp. This one-week experience is for all incoming 5th and 6th grade students. It is a wonderful opportunity to get acclimated to the middle school setting. The other program is Summer School. Please review the letter and use the links either within the letter or below to register for either or both programs.
For families that are not new to Buffett, you will notice Bobcat Camp and Summer School will be run in a slightly different manner than in past years. This is due to the district's implementation of "Transition to Success" programming that affects transportation to summer programming. The experience your child has at Bobcat Camp will not change; the offering of times and dates is slightly different. Due to this, please read the letter carefully so your registration is correct.
Summer School Registration
The program consists of a 4-week session (20 instructional days) from 7:30 AM to 11:30 AM daily from Monday June 3rd to Friday, June 28th. Click on the link below to register your child for summer school.
If you have any questions email Amye Aggen (Summer School Principal) at amye.aggen@ops.org.
Future Blood Donor Program
Alice Buffett Magnet Middle is partnering with the American Red Cross to host a blood drive through the Future Blood Donor program. This program will introduce students to the importance of blood donation and will provide lifesaving blood products for hospital patients. Our students will have the opportunity to show leadership and help save lives by recruiting blood donors for our upcoming blood drive. Each student who recruits an adult to donate will be recognized as a Future Blood Donor with a fun gift from the Red Cross.
You can support this program by donating blood, recruiting other donors or volunteering at the blood drive. Please schedule your blood donation appointment by clicking here, by downloading the Blood Donor App, or contact calling 1-800-Red-Cross
