RIGHT TO KNOW
In the year 2013, an estimated 22,280 women will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Ovarian cancer starts as a small tumor in the ovaries, but can easily spread to the abdomen and pelvis area. Once the cancer spreads to the abdomen and pelvis it is very difficult to treat and is often fatal.
RISKS
Risks of ovarian cancer include: family history of ovarian cancer, previous cancers, increasing age and never being pregnant
BE AWARE
1 in 67 women will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer, only 24% will catch it at an early stage
PREVENTION
Studies show that oral contraceptives reduce the risk of ovarian cancer. Eating unprocessed foods, like vegetables fruits and whole grains can also help prevent cancer

This september write a letter to your congress person outlining the importance of research in diagnosing and treating ovarian cancer. Start a local fundraiser to raise awareness and support for ovarian cancer research. Join the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition (NOCC) and participate in upcoming events.
