2016-2017 Thur. Lunch w/ Dr.Ehrmann
Calling all LSWs, LCSWs, MFTs & LPCs to Join her at CHOICES
For What?
Dr. Lois Ehrmann has been a national presenter on the issues of attachment, trauma, EMDR and Internal Family Systems, FASDs and Adoption/Foster issues for over 12 years and for the last two years she has facilitated a monthly mini-training for area professionals on the most cutting edge research, treatment options and ideas related to trauma. For the 2015-2016 program we focused on Bessel Van Der Kolk's book titled, The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma, (copyright 2014; available from Amazon) in part because Dr. Ehrmann fashioned the Individual and Family CHOICES Program's holistic elements after Dr. Van Der Kolk's outcome based research. Initially for this year's series Daryle Gracey MS, LPC, NCC will present on the impact of pornography on children and then Dr. Ehrmann will focus on a workbook authored by Pat Ogden and Janina Fisher which was written to help clinicians and traumatized clients work with the physiological impacts of trauma. Please consider joining her and her CHOICES team for some relaxed education, dialogue and networking. Hopefully also having fun and fellowship will be a part of this series!

About this Book!
Pat Ogden PhD, is the founder of Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and after lamenting about the need to include body issues in the treatment of trauma writes on page 14:
"Gradually a solution came to me. A workbook could be written for therapists and their clients, designed to be explored within the context of the therapeutic relationship. It could be both psychoeducational and experiential and therapists and clients could determine the best way to use the material, adapting and adjusting it to the unique needs of each client and the dynamics of the dyad. Suddenly, doors opened, possibilities expanded and this book was born, In writing it, I am counting on the therapeutic relationship to provide the context through which the role of the body in treating trauma and attachment deficits is explored. It is also essential to understand that this material is in no way intended as a stand-alone treatment or manualized approach. The selected concepts and interventions from Sensorimotor Psychotherapy introduced in this book, which by no means represent the full spectrum of what Sensorimotor Psychotherapy has to offer are designed as an adjunct to, and in support of, other methods of treatment."
It is important to understand that reviewing and practicing the concepts included in this workbook does not mean that we are in anyway becoming qualified to do Sensorimotor Psychotherapy. The exercises and worksheets included in the workbook are meant to bring about a foundational basic understanding about how trauma can impact the body and also how the body can be a resource to the individual struggling with trauma.
