William Lioyd Garrison
He was the publisher of an abolitionist newspaper called The Liberator.He used the newspaper because he wanted to tell every body that slavery is wrong. William and others formed the American Anti-slavery society. Soon later his newspaper was banned from the south. The northern opposed his views. He was often harassed.
Sojourner Truth
Sojourner Truth was the first woman to gain Recognition as and Anti-Slavery speaker. She was born in New York and was freed through the gradual emancipation. She had a powerful speaking style.President Lincoln appointed her as a conselor
Fredrick Douglass
Fredrick taught himself to read and write while he was a slave.He escaped slavery and became an eloquent spokesmen.He published an antislavery newspaper and was known as the north star.He encouraged President Lincoln.After the war he continued to to fight for rights
Harriet Tubman
Harriet escaped slavery and became the most successful "conductors" of the under ground railroad. A chain of homes where for escaped slaves to sleep for the night.The chain was from the south to Canada. She led more than 300 slaves to freedom.
Harriet Breecher Stowe
She was the author of the book Uncle Tom's Cabin. Stowes book became a best seller. During the Cival war Stowe often disagreed with Lincoln.
John Brown
John was a abolitionist who migrated to Kansas after the Kansas-Newbraska act. John and his sons participated in the violence that gave the name "Bleeding Kansas". John had hopes of capturing guns and leading a slave revolt.
