We are Thankful!

· Thanks to your generous donations the Apollo Giving Program is in full swing of funding needed programs and equipment at SHS! The PTO recently approved funds for supporting these initiatives: Grad Mentor Program $1000, Audio Visual Equipment $415, Stress Therapy Equipment $54, Commercial Grade Paper Cutter $450, Bathroom Renovation Project $300. These are some examples of your $$$ at work at SHS.

• Congratulations to our October Volunteer of the Month Jenny Hagerup! Jenny volunteered for 36 hours this month! We are so grateful for her and all of our volunteers. In total we had 70 volunteers give over 562 hours this month! Our Volunteer of the Month selection comes with a nice gift card prize so, remember to log your volunteer hours in, even if they are hours worked in the past or after school hours. Also, be sure to turn in any volunteer hours to your employer if they match. Those donations are a huge help to our school. Thank you again and Congrats to Jenny!

· Please join us in saying a huge THANK YOU to Almira Ko for coordinating a volunteer lead initiative in upgrading the bathrooms at the stadium. They look fantastic! Check them out at the playoff games this week and give her a big high five if you see her!

· Please welcome Julie Gupta as the new Matching Funds Coordinator for the SHS PTO. Julie will help improve our ability to obtain more funds from companies that match funds and will help volunteers with submitting volunteer hours to be matched by companies. Please remember that many employers match gifts to Apollo Giving and volunteer hours but you need to submit them to your employer so the PTO can receive the funds.

For All Apollos:

· Walking Tours for Prospective Students begin 11/7 – please spread the word. Walking tours of Sunset begin this month. Tours are conducted by a school administrator and are intended for those families seeking information about Sunset, who do not currently have students attending the school. Tours will be at 4:00 p.m. on 11/7, 11/14, and 11/21. There will be additional tours December through January. All tours meet in the main office. Reservations are not necessary.

· BSD “Finding Affordable Colleges” Presentation – 11/13. Families of students in grades 8-11 are invited to this presentation, offered by the Beaverton School District. The presentation begins at 6:00 p.m. at Mountainside HS. This presentation will provide families with the tools to evaluate colleges to see which will be the most generous for your child. It will also help families become better consumers by teaching the vocabulary, timelines, and context of how financial aid is offered.

· Monthly Teen Topic Conversations - 11/12 Tuesday, 7:30-8:30 a.m., Community Room. We hope you will take this opportunity to attend and connect with other parents. This month our topic is "The Well Adjusted Child".

· Double Your Impact – Match It! Remember to request company matching for both donations and SHS volunteer hours. Sunset PTO received over $8K in company matches last year – from companies such as Intel, Nike, and Columbia to name a few for employee volunteer hours. Thank you to everyone who requested matches as it really makes a difference to Sunset’s programs. Search for “Sunset High School PTO” to report volunteer hours on company giving portals or make a donation and/or match request on your company portal by searching for “Sunset High School PTO Apollo Giving Program”.

· Amazon Smile Fundraiser. Support Sunset when you shop at Amazon. Access through, choose SHS as your charitable organization, and then when you purchase items, Amazon will donate 0.5% of the purchase price to Sunset High School PTO. Your Amazon shopping experience will be exactly the same and the SHS PTO will earn money to continue to help the school. Bookmark the link and support SHS every time you shop. Sunset PTO received over $400 in donations from Amazon in the previous year through this program.

· Support SHS Concessions! Did you know that proceeds from Sunset Concessions account for over 50% of the Sunset Parent Teacher Organization’s income? Did you know that every dollar raised by the PTO is invested back in our students and staff? Did you know that volunteering at Concessions is a fun and easy way to get involved – even if you don’t have a child participating in that activity?
