Joy Fair
As outlined in Compass to 2020, Goal 4 includes a focus on improving working conditions and fostering a culture of respect among all staff. To support this effort, the Office of Professional Growth and Innovation is sponsoring a Joy Fair on Feb. 22 from 5-7 p.m. at College Park Elementary School.
This event is an opportunity for all staff to learn strategies focused on transforming classroom environments and school cultures by maximizing joy and motivation for both staff and students. Attendees will have the opportunity to browse interactive learning stations that will be hosted by Joy Ambassadors, staff who have committed to leading and supporting joy within their classrooms and schools.
And one of those schools will be ours! Please come out in support of the work we do every day for every child to make this a joyful place to learn and work!
Digital Learning Day is Feb. 23, 2017
The Virginia Department of Education is encouraging all schools to participate in Digital Learning Day, Feb. 23. This event is designed to celebrate digital learning in addition to transformational teaching and learning practices. This is also a perfect time to revisit internet safety and digital citizenship. Visit Digital Learning Day to learn more about this event and Virginia Department of Education for other technology initiatives. Internet safety and digital citizenship resources have been curated by Instructional Technology Specialists to share at each school. Technology is being integrated in so many wonderful ways at Trantwood, I also encourage classes to invite parents in for a visit on this day so they can see the plethora of digital tools being used in our classrooms to inspire and engage our learners.
2017 SOL Item and Test Review Committee

A memo contains the supporting documentation for the criteria and expectations of the 2017 SOL Item and Test Review Committees. There is also a schedule of the committee meetings. If interested in applying for these committees, please see Mrs. Kurz for the memo.

~Congrats to Kim and Gina we made it 100 days. Gina thanks for always being there so when I turn my back to handle side issues I can trust the class is still running without a skip under your watch. You help make this program run so smoothly couldn’t do it without your support. Kim you are a rock star. I am so proud of you to have jumped into PE with both feet and have never looked back. You do so much better then you will ever give yourself credit for so let me be the first to say thanks, you are a valuable part of our program. Tim Cassidy
~Awesome Job Jenny Delashmutt. Keep up your drive, perseverance, kindness, diligence, and shear love for what you do through some of the most trying times. Your actions are noticed by all. Tim Cassidy
~So many thanks to Michele, Terry and Nancy. I know that times in the office can become more hectic than an emergency room and your ladies patience through adversity and professionalism with staff, students and Trantwood family allow our school to run like a well-oiled machine. We all love you ladies. Tim Cassidy
~Brooke, Nancy, Megan, Gina L, Lisa, Gina H and Kim thank you so much for helping me with the break out boxes for fitness and PE. They were such a hit only because all of our minds got together. Tim Cassidy
~Lou Anne and Karen, I praise and admire your patience and determination through adversity with students who are still struggling to find their boundaries and limitations with behavior. Tim Cassidy
~Thank you BJ and Bernette. You ladies are the back bone of this school and your actions are never unnoticed. No matter the weather outside I know I will see your ladies smile shining through the hallways. Love you ladies. Tim Cassidy
~Christina, Nana, Robin, Kim, Elise, Melinda, and Bessie you guys rock. Outstanding job on the wins Wednesday during our volleyball game against college park. Your gameplay is coming together more and more, but most importantly I am just having a blast seeing you’re smiling and laughing faces while playing with all of you win, lose or shots at my groin. Special thanks to Fifi for coming out and cheering us on and Michele and Kim for providing us with tasty orange slices. Tim Cassidy
~Pam it is so awesome and fills me with such joy to see you so happy. Love that you are loving this new role in teaching for you. Tim Cassidy
~Catie thanks for including me on your health and step conquest. I am willing and ready for any future challenges that you, your students or even I create. Keep up the hard work and you will notice a difference sooner than you think. Just know I am right there stepping right along with you. Let’s do this together… But I am going to win. Tim Cassidy
~Thank you to all of you teachers, faculty and staff. You have made it 100 plus days and I applaud each and every one of you for all the “little” things you have done to make Trantwood so a “BIG” place in all the students hearts. From the art in the halls to the activities in and out of class, during and after school, hallways, classrooms and bathrooms clean and ready, lunch lines running smooth and students eating calmly with friends, students singing songs long after class, special “office sitters” that watch over students whose rides home aren’t always timely, standing in between students and the only door of a room that went through a war zone, with standing such warzones and not letting it hinder your work ethic, and to all the new teachers to teaching or Trantwood in general welcome, I hope this first half of your year has been memorable with us and just know it will only get better. All of us together is what makes Trantwood such a special place to be. Tim Cassidy
~ I’d like to shout out to Persi for always being flexible when we have to juggle our schedules. I also can’t live without my “therapists” Nancy L., Kurzee, Sue, Barb, and Kim for helping me with my teenager angst/struggles. You’re the BEST, if not the cheapest, with such encouragement! xoxo Karen Francis

She is doing remarkably well with her immunotherapy also from Hopkins. She meets with her surgeon next month.....prayers they are able to move ahead and operate.....as soon as April! Deb thanks you all so much for your continued love and support.....Trantwood Rocks!
