  • 1st Grade field trip to the Lutcher Theater in Orange, TX 8:15 AM - 1:00 PM

**The annual T.S. Cooley Mardi Gras parade will be Friday, February 17th @ 1:30 PM. Parents are invited to attend. Additional details will be shared soon.

LEAP TESTING INFORMATION

All third through fifth grade students will be taking the LEAP 2025 state assessment April 26th - May 2nd. Please avoid scheduling appointments during this time.

2ND GRADER ESTELLE G.'S ART SELECTED FOR MAYOR'S 326

Estelle's art will be on display at the Historic City Hall Arts and Cultural Center at 1001 Ryan St. She has been invited to attend a private reception where her art will be received and acknowledged by Mayor Nic Hunter. We are so proud of her and appreciate all the instruction and guidance Ms. Elizabeth Guinn gives to all of her art students.

4TH GRADER, MATHILDA B., SCHOOL-WIDE SPELLING BEE CHAMPION

Recently 3rd-5th grade class winners competed in a school-wide spelling bee to determine who would represent T.S. Cooley at the next level of competition. Congratulations, Mathilda, our overall school champion. The winning word was flybys.

T.S. Cooley Physical Education Program Receives Donation

Our Physical Education program received a generous donation from Lotte Chemical USA Corporation. This will be used to purchase new equipment for Coach Wrobel to use with our K-5 students that attend PE daily. Special thanks to Sarah Arnold for securing this donation. CA'LEAH B. IS ALL SMILES AS SHE WINS TOP GYMNASTIC AWARDS

Ca’Leah B. competed in her very first gymnastics competition at the 2023 Louisiana Cup Shreveport, La. January 23rd with the Xcel Silver Team of Gymnastics Etc. She scored 1st place on floor, vault, and beam, 2nd place on bars, and 1st place overall.

OVERALL PERFORMANCE OF THE NIGHT

Singing and dancing to "Girls Just Want to Have Fun", McKenna T., Carrington C., Isabella A., Georgie B., and Blaire P. won the night with their over the top performance.

1ST PLACE SOLO PERFORMANCE

5th grader, Cecilia R., showed us that she is always, "Better When I'm Dancing," and took home gold! Cecilia takes ballet and performs in local theater.

2ND PLACE SOLO PERFORMANCE

Isabella A., showed her lip sync skills and won 2nd place with her performance, "In You". She also took home an overall performance trophy for her earlier performance with her 2nd grade classmates.

3RD PLACE SOLO PERFORMANCE

"This Girl on Fire", Blaire P., owned the stage with her performance and took home 3rd place and also took home an overall performance trophy for her earlier performance with her 2nd grade classmates.

Fifth grade boys and girls battled it out in an epic "Lip Sync Battle" and took home gold! This group of talented friends (front, left to right) are: Amelia P., Callie J., Ava A., Camryn J., CC C., Molly C. and (back, left to right) James G., Gabe G., Owen A., Jack J., and Patrick B.

2nd place group performance wowed the audience dressed as trolls and performed to "Can't Stop the Feeling." Jude Y. and Elsie T. really showed their talent as they performed, "Girls Like Me" and took home 3rd place Friday night. Well done girls!

LIP SYNC MASTERS OF CEREMONY

Fifth graders, Sydney D., Genna B., Gavin L., and BB P., gave us an Oscar winning performance as the evenings' masters of ceremony. They were witty and generous with their compliments. Thank you for an evening to remember.

Tech Tidbits

Below you will find suggestions to safely monitor devices and internet access at home. This is being shared in an effort to promote positive digital citizenship for our students. There has been a significant increase in students sharing information about screen time at home, sites they visit, communication apps, sharing options, etc. Our goal of developing well-rounded students addresses all areas of growth, including digital safety.

AMERICAN LEGION AMERICAN ESSAY CONTEST

Students in grades 3-5 are invited to participate in this year's essay contest. The Essay theme is "What does patriotism mean to you?" The word requirement for grades 3 and 4 is 150-250 words. The requirement for 5th grade is 250-300 words. The cover sheet with all the information that must accompany the essay is provided in the link below. Completed essays must be turned in to the school office no later that February 14th. They will be picked up by the American Legion the following morning.

AR END OF YEAR CELBRATION GOALS

Bingo Bash Celebration- Grades 2-5 have been working on Bingo Cards. Those with a blackout by May 1st will get an invite to the Bingo Bash.


AR Pep Rally- Grades 1-5

AR goals to meet by May 1st for invite:

1st- 25 points

2nd- 50 points

3rd- 75 points

4th/5th- 100 points

*Many students in each grade level have met this goal already!!! Whoohoo!

--Donation items of Saints, MSU, and LSU are needed for this event. Drop off in the library anytime. Thank you.

NEW TO OUR WEEKLY NEWSLETTER - STUDENT EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES AND AWARDS

T.S. Cooley has many students that shine here and away from campus. We showcase many of their accomplishments at school in our yearbook, shine boards, morning assemblies and awards days. After hearing about so many of their outside accomplishments we have decided to add a shine board to our weekly newsletters. We have many athletes, musicians, dancers, singers and other talented students who we would like to showcase. If you would like to share their accomplishments, please send a jpg photo and a short paragraph explaining the photo with details about the activity, length of time they have been participating, type of honor they are receiving or other information to barbara.lawrence@cpsb.org
