News From Marion Jordan Elementary
Information from Mrs. Grosch
We hope this publication finds our students and their families healthy as we resume school post winter break.
Beginning Monday, January 25, 2021, In-Person learners will be allowed to concurrently learn by streaming into the classroom only if they need to quarantine for illness or exposure to COVID-19. When students flip flop between concurrent and in-person learning for reasons not related to COVID-19, it causes significant disruption within the classroom as well as the main office level where daily accountability for student attendance is a state requirement. For this reason, students who have requested in-person learning who choose to stay home for alternative reasons will not have access to concurrent instruction in 2021. Should your child be absent from in-person learning for a reason other than COVID-19 quarantine or exposure, as was the expectation prior to the pandemic, please contact your main office’s attendance line to report the absence.
For those of you picking students up from school each day, thank you for your patience. An increased number of cars are coming and we recognize a need to revisit our current routine. On our end, we will be inviting cars to enter the lot a few minutes earlier to alieviate some of the congestion that is extending out onto Palatine Road, causing a situation that is dangerous for our families as well as the greater community. This makes it ever so important that you enter your student's name in our system ONLY AFTER YOU HAVE ENTERED THE LINE. If student names are entered early, your student will be dismissed prior to his/her turn which leaves kids standing outside longer and reduces the amount of space between kids. The system was devised to have your child dismissed and meet you in the pick up line in the order parents arrive. We do not wish to have to change our QR code each day, however, if it becomes necessary we can.
Valentine's Day Plans 2021
CCSD15 will have a Wear Pink/Red Spirit Day on Friday 2/12/21. Teachers, just like for Halloween, will have simple games or activities in the classroom on that day. In addition, our PTA will be hosting Valentine's Day BINGO in each of our classrooms. No cards will be passed out from home or treats will be shared. Again, the reason is to be equitable to all those students who are virtual and for health reasons related to COVID-19. We will also be celbrating throughout the month of February with Fun Fridays! Looking forward to seeing spirit throughout the month!
- Friday, February 5th: 100th Day of School Heart Activity (100 things I like about…..)
- Friday, February 12th: District 15 Spirit Day & Valentine’s Day Bingo (led by PTA parent volunteer)

COLD WEATHER/RECESS GUIDELINES
Please take a moment and review the District 15 Cold Weather Recess Guidelines. This information was taken directly from our District 15 website: https://www.ccsd15.net/Page/67
Students generally go outside for recess every day, so they should be dressed appropriately. Exceptions are made only when a child brings a doctor's note excusing him/her from outdoor recess.
Staff members provide outdoor supervision at all times.
Indoor recess is determined based on the following guidelines:
- If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is below 0°F, all students will remain inside for the entire lunch hour.
- If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is between 0°-10°F, the preferred procedure is a rotation of 20 minutes for lunch, a 20-minute outdoor recess, and a 20-minute indoor recess. However, at the principal's discretion, students may be kept inside for the entire lunch hour.
- If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is above 10°F, students will have regular outdoor recess.
- Other considerations in which indoor recess is allowed include the condition of the playground and the presence of precipitation.
For indoor recess, students are supervised in their classrooms.
Please reach out to our front office if your family needs assistance with winter clothing.

From the Health Office
This is a reminder that if your student is new to the school district and is in Kindergarten or in 6th grade, they are required to have a current school year immunization record and a physical exam. If you have not submitted these records, please do so by May 31, 2021. These health requirements are per Illinois State Law. Please be aware any missing health records will delay your child’s entrance into the next grade level in the 21-22 school year when we return to in-person learning. If you have any questions, please contact the school health office.
Sincerely,
Sherin Thomas, RN BSN
