Big Idea
Step-By-Step Directions
2. Come up with assignment products that students will create at each level or assignments they must complete as they learn new content. These leveled assignments can be based on Bloom's Taxonomy, DOK, difficulty of content, etc.
3. Add these products to the appropriate section of the template.
4. Create your rubric if you are using this as an assessment. A generic rubric that will work no matter what product a student chooses is best! Think about what each student will need to show you they can do or know.
When To Use
Teaching Tool: Students have various ways that they can learn about a topic. The most basic level may include information on vocabulary or making connections to background knowledge. As the assignments become more complicated or students have to do more thinking they should be worth more bases or points.
Assessment Tool: Use this as a menu of options for students to show you what they know in a summative assessment at the end of a unit or topic. It allows students to choose what they want to show you within parameters that you set.
Strategy Variations
1.Change the "required" number of assignments for levels of learners. Maybe a lower level student only needs to complete 1 choice from the singles, doubles, and triples levels, or has a modified homerun assignment. A higher level student may have the option to create their own homerun assignment to better fit their own interests within the topic or has a "suggestion" to choose from triple and homerun levels of assignments. Sometimes it helps to individually conference with students who you know will need adjustments and help them choose an appropriate level for themselves.
2.Let students come up with their own ideas for a product to create! Have a proposal form ready to go for students who come up with their own idea or product that they would like to create. You get to okay the assignment so you can make sure it fits the parameters you set for the assignment.
3. Change up the theme! If baseball isn't you or your student's thing or you want to give the students more categories/options to choose from change to a different sport. Using a football theme would allow for even more categories - Field Goals, Touchdown, 2 Point Conversions, Safeties, etc.
