Magazine Drive

Our Student Council Officers, Ethan K., Trevor B., Hannah M., and Sam M., led our school in an exciting kick off to the 2013-2014 school year of student activities starting with our Magazine Drive! The Magazine Drive is the one and only schoolwide fundraiser that benefits Tamanend Middle School. And this year, in addition to offering great magazines at a great price, we are introducing the option of buying cookie dough!

The overall timeline of our Magazine Drive is as follows:

Tuesday, September 17 - Postcard Booklet Turn in Day

Friday, September 20 - Catalog and Online Order Turn in Day 1

Tuesday, September 24 - Catalog and Online Order Turn in Day 2

Friday, September 27 - Catalog and Online Order Turn in Day 3

Last year we were able to purchase our students' planners and some Smartboards with our magazine drive profits. (see below for more on Smartboards) This year we hope to do the same making Smartboards available for the rest of our classrooms. Thank you for all of your support!

Announcing... Scrolling Announcements!

This year we have scrolling announcements all day on our classroom televisions. This allows our students and staff to have the latest updates on things like after school sports and activities. It is also where we list names of students who need to stop down the office between classes to pick up forgotten items dropped off by parents. It has been a great way to keep everyone informed while allowing greater focus on learning instead of wondering what is going on and wanting to come to the office to find out.

Staying Connected - Parent Portal

Because the Parent Portal allows parents/guardians to check student progress on a regular basis, we will no longer print and send home interim progress reports. We encourage all parents/guardians to log in and check the Parent Portal on a weekly basis. Parents have access to current grades, assignments, attendance, and more. The Parent Portal serves as an excellent springboard for discussion with your student regarding their focus and progress in school. If you have questions, please email your student's teacher.

SmartBoards

Thanks to the leadership of our 2012-13 Student Council and all who supported the Tamanend Middle School Magazine Drive last year, we were able to purchase Smartboards for Tamamend. Our teachers attended workshops on Smartboard technology and have created some really engaging lessons for their students. Students enjoy interacting with technology while learning! We are especially thankful to Mr. Wilson, Mr. Krauter and the TMS Custodial Crew for their great work installing all of our Smartboards over the summer!

September Boomerang Asset:

At Tamanend, we recognize our students for making good choices and doing the right thing. Boomerang Recognition is one of the ways we accomplish this. We encourage students, parents, teachers and community members to nominate Tamanend students each month throughout the school year. We have had great success with Boomerang over the years proudly having more nominations than any other CB school, and having more District Boomerang Winners than any other CB middle school.

September's Boomerang Asset is Positive Family Communication. Please take a moment to complete the online nomination form for a Tamanend student who has positive communication with his/her parents and is willing to seek advice and counsel from them. Nominations are due on September 24th.
