The Miller Minute

We #cando & #willdo our personal best to inspire excellence!

Week 2 ~ August 25, 2019

What a great 1st week!

It was a busy week at LME as we worked to get back into the swing of things! Thank you for showing patience and grace as we greet and dismiss 655 learners each day!

We are enjoying getting to know our new LME learners as well are reconnecting with our returning ones. We consider it an absolute privilege to serve you and your families.

Reach out to Teachers

I am confident you and your children will have an amazing experience at LME because our staff is intentional about the opportunities we provide. Our learners, your children, are our "why". Our highest hopes are to instill a love of learning so they can reach their highest potential with our support. Sometimes, questions or concerns arise. If or when that happens, you are encouraged to reach out to your child's teacher (homeroom, partner teacher, or specials teacher) first. He/She will be happy to assist you! You may contact your child's teacher through email or phone call, and most of the time, he/she will reply the same school day but will certainly respond within 24 hours. If you have additional concerns that the teacher cannot address, please reach out to Mrs. Wendel or Mrs. West, and we will be happy to help.

Arrival / Dismissal

Thank you for a GREAT 1st week, and thank you for showing patience and grace as we learn arrival and dismissal procedures!

If you need to change your child's transportation, please do so by 2:30.

Cafeteria Expectations

In order to ensure student safety, cafeteria guests must be listed in PowerSchool under guardian 1, 2, or emergency contact. Additional guests will need a note from the parent granting permission.

Cafeteria Guest Expectations:

  • Eat at the bistro tables (if available) with your child.
  • Provide food for your child only.
  • Peers will sit at their assigned grade level tables.

Other Cafeteria News

You can find menus, menu prices, free and reduced lunch forms, as well as the online meal payment link at: https://www.misd.gs/domain/71.

Did you know students can purchases snacks everyday? Did you also know you can limit the number of snacks your child purchases a day or even limit the days your child is allowed to purchase snacks? You may call the child nutrition to set up these limits - 469-856-5390.

There's an app for that!

Download Nutrislice from your phone's app store, and you can access cafeteria menus with one click!

Parent University

Rather than traditional Parent Information Nights, as we have hosted in the past, we are hosting Parent University. This event will contain a variety of sessions that include social emotional support for learners, media safety, Education 3.0, the standards-based report card, bullying (what it is and what it isn't), Restorative Practices, and more! We are finalizing this event, so be on the lookout for more information. You won't want to miss it!

Don't worry! You can still get the information you want from Parent Information Nights. Each teacher or team of teachers have created videos with all the information you need! Be sure to check them out!

Volunteer Background Checks

If you plan to attend a field trip with your child or help in your child’s classroom this year, then you will be required to pass a background check. The background check is free and can be found at https://www.misd.gs/Domain/398. The process can take up to 3 weeks, so please do not wait until field trips are scheduled to complete this process.

Raptor

We have an updated Raptor Software System and all of the previously scanned driver’s licenses have been erased. What does that mean for you? All visitors to campus will have to have their license rescanned this school year. You may have your license scanned any time.
