NVCS COVID-19
Over the past several days, Thompson School District staff and New Vision Charter School have been closely monitoring the progression of the COVID-19 coronavirus within our community and region. Out of an abundance of caution, Thompson School District and New Vision Charter School will be extending its Spring Break period and will be closed from Monday, March 16 through Friday, March 27. All schools and district buildings will be closed and inaccessible during this period. All district-sponsored athletics and events are cancelled as well and district buildings will not be available for community rental or activities.
During this additional week off, we will not begin our online learning. Please do not have your children complete any work in the workbooks that were sent home yesterday during this additional week off. If a decision is made to extend this period of closing, NVCS will communicate to families and staff utilizing its regular communication protocol. If the closure is extended we will begin online learning.
We realize that this decision will have a significant impact on our students, families and community members. Although it was a difficult determination to make, we do believe that it is the best step to take to help ensure safety for all.
During this period of closure, we will be conducting deep cleanings of all buildings throughout the district. This level of cleaning will be much more extensive than our thorough cleaning process that occurs at the buildings on a daily basis.
We thank you very much for your support and apologize for any inconvenience that this closure may cause for you and your family.
Thank you,
Tim Bishop

Middle School Registration
MIDDLE SCHOOL REGISTRATION FOR FALL 2020
Parents of next year's Middle School Students:
It's that time of year to register for fall classes! Please be watching for an email before Spring Break with a link for Middle School Course Registration. Courses in which students have a choice will be awarded on a first-come-first-served basis, so it's important to sit down with your child and complete the registration survey upon receipt. (Please also note that all parents and guardians will receive the registration email, so it's important to communicate so only one of you completes the survey.) If for some reason you do not receive the email, please contact our 4-8 Counselor for the registration survey link: Erin Jobman at ejobman@nvcs.school.
New Vision has a lot to offer for Middle School....many sports, several fun clubs, and leadership opportunities such as Student Council and National Junior Honor Society. At NVCS, we feel that we have a lot to offer our Middle School Students academically, physically, and socially in the hopes of turning out independent thinkers, lifelong learners, and well-rounded citizens. I would be excited to talk with you if you have any questions about the middle school experience at NVCS, both from a parent and a Counselor perspective!

NVCS Board Elections
MEMO
To: New Vision Parents/Guardians
From: NVCS Board of Directors
Date: Feb 4, 2020
Subject: Open 2020-21 Board of Director Positions
New Vision Charter School is moving forward with great success and needs your help to keep up our progress. Students and staff are enjoying our new 4-8 building and our K-3 facility is already brimming with new students. NVCS is continuing to grow and we’ve received another recognition as a 2019 School of Distinction. We want to continue our success for years to come and we’re looking for parents to join our Board of Directors.
As a charter school, NVCS is governed by our parents and community. Each year the board opens 3 positions that are ending their terms. This is your opportunity to be part of the decision-making process for New Vision and its future. As a member of the Board of Directors, your life and business experience play an important role, and your opinion and contributions are highly valued. NVCS enjoys an increasingly diverse student population and we hope to have a board that reflects that same growing diversity. We invite you to consider running for a position on the Board.
There are two (2) 3-year term positions and one (1) 1-year term opening in May 2020. The process is relatively simple, apply for a position and participate in the election process in April. You may also want to attend the orientation session at the March 30th Board meeting at 5:30 pm to ask questions and learn more about what is involved in serving on the New Vision Board of Directors.
What does serving on the Board entail?
The Board has control and general management of the affairs, property and business of NVCS. As such, you would work hand-in-hand with school administration and six (6) other board members on tasks such as:
Establish and evaluate our academic and physical school growth strategies
Maintain a financially stable operation and ensure our expenses support our mission and vision
Work with TSD school board, the Boys & Girls Club and other agencies on matters that pertain to NVCS
Establish school policies that govern the manner in which we operate as an organization
Collaborate with our Executive Director in establishing standards and best-in-class strategies for continued improvement as a top-tier charter school.
What is expected of a board member?
Attend and actively participate in regularly scheduled, monthly Board meetings. (3-4 hours/month)
Prepare for the meetings beforehand by reviewing the agenda and Board packet. (1-2 hours/month)
Serve as liaison to one of our standing committees (School Accountability/SAC, Finance, Public Relations, Committee of 2 (2-3 hours/month)
Participate in additional meetings/discussions with external agencies as required (1-2 hours/month)
Attend 1 or 2 all-day strategy/goal setting meeting(s) annually (5-7 hours per meeting)
Commit to a three-year term
How to apply.
Complete and submit the following items by the application deadline date of April 10th
Review and agree to uphold the board norms (published here)
Complete the online New Vision Board Questionnaire (link here).
What happens next? Participate in Town Hall Meeting on April 16th in the evening at NVCS.
Additional important dates. Voting opens April 18th and closes April 23rd.
There are many important and exciting opportunities the NVCS Board will be tackling over the next few months and years. If you are willing to donate your time for the benefit of quality education, are an effective communicator and a good listener, consider donating your talents and help make New Vision Charter School the best school we can be!
Pets at School
This is a reminder that pets of any kind are not allowed on either campus. Thank you.

Who is the HERO in your life? Life’s journey is often full of twists and turns, joys and pain, highs and lows. In order to thrive and sometimes survive, the help of another individual becomes more than necessary. Even through simple acts of kindness, encouragement, inspiration or courage, a lasting impression can create a lifelong, impacting relationship. HEROES are AMONG US!
The program is designed to allow you to publicly thank an important person in your life. The rules are simple:
1) Any person in your life may be nominated as a hero. 2) This includes parents, step-parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles,
teachers, service men and women, neighbors, friends— anyone! 3) You must be a middle school or high school student in a
Loveland/Berthoud school (Public, Private, or Faith-Based) or homeschooled within Thompson School District.
To be considered for a potential $500 scholarship, you must:
• Submit an application online: www.heroesamongus.co
