Ms. West's April Newsletter

April Showers Bring May Flowers!

I hope all of the students are excited to return to school tomorrow. I know I sure have missed them this past week and I can't wait to hear about all their adventures! Can you believe that we only have one quarter left of school? I know I can't. This last quarter is sure to be fun, but busy as well.

Report cards will be coming out on Thursday, April 14th. They will need to be returned by Monday, April 18th. As always, if you have any questions about your child's grades or the end of school/4th quarter please let me know.

Have an awesome April!

What's Happening In Fourth Quarter?

In reading, we will be focusing on reviewing all standards learned from first and second quarter. We will be reading a book called Regarding the Fountain by Kate Klise. We will use this book to help us review reading standards as well as other non-fiction text and poetry. This will be a huge part in reviewing for the Reading EOG coming up the beginning of June.

In science, we will begin the quarter by focusing on forces and motion. We will be discussing things like gravity, inertia, friction, velocity, energy, speed, weight, and conservation. We will end the quarter by talking about physical and chemical change, as well as, heat transfer.

In math, we will begin the quarter by focusing on measurement and data. We will be learning about both the customary and metric systems. Students should know simple conversions (ex. how many inches are in a foot, how many feet are in a yard, how many quarts are in a gallon, how many cups are in a pint, how many pounds are in a ton, etc). We will end the quarter by learning about geometry.
