Notes from Dr. Irvin
Your WGHS Weekly eNews for November 16

Hello WGHS Families,
We are ramping up instead of ramping down for our upcoming holiday. This week, we'll undoubtedly see an outstanding production of Rumors by Neil Simon put on by our students and staff.
Our students will be enjoying the traditional Turkey Day activities next week. This is an unequaled tradition that we are fortunate to have at Webster Groves High School. We are getting even closer with ticket sales, door decorations, and game prep underway. I am excited to see the renewed process and pageantry for one of the truly unique defining experiences for our school and community. While the pep rally, ChiliFest, and game are eagerly anticipated, I may be the best prepared for Tacky Day (plenty of red and white attire to be found). We invite all to join us on Wednesday night for ChiliFest, followed by our community pep rally at Roberts Gym at 7pm, and then again for the game at KHS at noon on Thanksgiving. Have a great holiday.
Regards,
Matt Irvin
There will be no eNews on Thursday, November 23 due to the holiday.

Congratulations to our Chelsea Student Spotlight of the week, Logan Storck.
Logan Storck, class of 2023, received our Chelsea Center Gap Year scholarship, and has been volunteering in Nepal for the past few months. Logan said that he has not only 'fallen in love with the people but also the culture and the natural beauty' of the South Asian country. He added, 'Everything in this country is beautiful. I never fail to be amazed by the views or the festivities. Every day I wonder how I ended up here and take time to appreciate the world around me.'
Logan’s experiences in Nepal have also led to personal growth. Logan reflected, 'There [have] been plenty of obstacles and difficulties but all of them have helped me understand the world just a little bit more. I have figured out more of who I am and who I want to be.'
While Logan has spent most of his time teaching English to young Nepalese children, he feels his work is ‘not yet finished’ and has plans to build a library in the school where he volunteers upon his return to Nepal after the holidays.
If you know someone who might be interested in learning more about the Chelsea Center Gap Year Scholarship, please contact Dr. Arens (arens.kerry@wgmail.org).
Congratulations to Keianne Ross for an Honorable Mention in Missouri Interscholastic Journalism Association's October Photo of the Month.
Senior Ari Eichberg Doing a stunt at the football game against {game}. This will be Ari’s last year on the team, and as she put it, it is bittersweet. “Cheer has always been a home for me, and allows me to be involved with not only the school, but with the entire community” Eichberg said. Being a senior and apart of any teamwork based activity will always be emotional, but it has taught her so much when it comes to interacting with the world and moving forward in life. She said, “I will definitely miss high school cheer as I move into college, but it was an experience I will never forget."
WGHS Attendance Procedures
Call your child's AP office to report an absence, late arrival, or early departure. Checking out early? When leaving school during the day, students must check out through the assistant principal’s office.
Student Early Release:
We require at least one hour notice when calling your student out early. Call the Assistant Principal's office before the designated time and report the absence. You may also send a note with the student to be presented to the Assistant Principal's office before school.
At the designated time, your student will receive a pass to check out if you called ahead. The student will check out in the Assistant Principal's office.
You will NOT enter the building if you have called the absence in and communicated a pick-up location with your child. However, if you choose to pick up your child in the building, you must do so at the main entrance on Selma Avenue. Upon entering the building, check in with the receptionist. Please bring your driver's license if you are checking in. The receptionist will contact the Assistant Principal’s office to send for your student. Please be aware that not calling ahead to schedule an early release can take up to 30 minutes to send for a student.
ParentSquare
Webster Groves School District uses ParentSquare for school communication, primarily with email, text and app notifications. ParentSquare automatically generates an account for each parent, using their preferred email address and phone number. We encourage parents to access their accounts so they can download the mobile app and update their preferences on when and how they are notified.
