In "Otter" News - Week #4 (B Week)

For the Week of 9/20 - 9/24

Message from the Principal

Happy Friday Otter Families!

We have closed out another successful week of learning here at Oakville. I have been able to travel around to classrooms and see students engaged in learning as well as demonstrating expected classroom routines. Our hallways and classrooms have a positive buzz about them. It is wonderful to see and hear students and teachers getting into the swing of the year!

Please see below for information important for the upcoming week. We will have an early dismissal day on Thursday, and no school for students on Friday. Teachers will spend the Professional Development Day on Friday reviewing and analyzing student data to help better inform our instruction moving forward.

Be sure to enjoy the St. Mary's County Fair next weekend and visit the Education Building to see our student otters' artwork. I would like to thank Mrs. Milcetich for taking the time to curate and build our display at the fair!

Otterly Yours,

Ms. Dietz

MCAP Information

Oakville students in fourth and fifth grades will work on Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP) tests in September and October. The MCAP assessments were postponed from the Spring to the Fall due to COVID-19. The tests, shortened from the normal Spring assessments, will be administered in Math and ELA. Oakville instructional staff will use the results of these assessments to help us better address student needs caused by learning disruptions in the last two school years. Our OES students will take their assessments by homeroom, on the following dates:

  • Mr. Zeier
    • Math- Sept. 23 and 27
    • ELA- Oct. 5 and 6
  • Ms. Massengill
    • Math- Sept. 30 and Oct. 4
    • ELA- Oct. 7 and 8
  • Ms. Boomer
    • Math- Oct. 4 and 5
    • ELA- Sept. 27 and 28
  • Ms. Reining
    • Math- Oct. 6 and 7
    • ELA- Sept. 29 and 30

Thank you for helping your Oakville Otter to do their best by making sure they attend school on their assessment dates, get a good night's sleep, and a good breakfast prior to their assessments.

More information can be found in the PDF linked directly below. Any questions regarding MCAP should be directed to our School Site Testing Coordinator, Mrs. Reineke. She can be reached by calling the school at (301) 373-4365 or emailing her at kmreineke@smcps.org.
