Principal's Update

September 1, 2023

Big picture

Happy Friday Wolves! It has been so wonderful having our wolf pack back together! I always love seeing all the smiles and excitement for our first days. Everyone did a great job settling into their new classrooms and I have no doubt it's going to be a great school year!

Just a reminder that there is no early release on September 6th. Our early release Wednesdays will start on September 13th.

Additionally, there is no school on Monday in observance of the Labor Day holiday. We will see everyone (except our PreK friends) back at Ridges on Tuesday, September 5th (PreK starts on the 6th).

Below are some additional updates for the days ahead. As always, please reach out if you have questions or if I can help in any way.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Miranda

Welcome Baby Glavan

I’m excited to share that Baby Glavan is here! Ariella was born on August 4th and weighed 9 lbs 8 oz and was 20.5 inches long. Everyone is doing great, and I’m so excited to welcome our newest wolf pup to the Ridges family! We wish Mrs. Glavan all the best during her maternity leave and will look forward to having her back at Ridges in January.

PAC Newsletter

Linked here is the September PAC Newsletter with lots of great information about how to get involved in our activities and events here at Ridges! Be sure to check it out!

Our PAC will also be hosting our September PAC meeting on Tuesday, September 5th starting at 7 pm. These meetings are open to any and all parents who are interested in helping with school events. We meet in the Ridges Community Room and the entrance is just to the right of our main school entry doors. Hope to see you there.!

A Few Safety Reminders

We are working very hard to ensure that all staff and students remain safe during their time at Ridges! As a part of that process, we would like to remind all parents and community members that our campuses are closed during school hours (7:30am - 2:30 pm). This includes all the playgrounds and our track and football field area. Thank you in advance for not using these areas during student school hours.

Additionally, if your child rides their bike to or from school, please remind them to walk their bike on all school sidewalks. Traffic is high in these areas and we would like to avoid any collisions between our bike riders and our students who walk.

We have also observed several close calls with cars both before and after school. Please make sure that when driving in front of the school you are stopping completely at all stop signs and following directions of our crossing guards.

Finally, a reminder that dogs are not permitted on District grounds on school days from 7:30am-3:30pm, or on athletic fields at any time, as per District policy. Please do not bring your dogs to drop-off or pick-up. If you do, you will need to remain on the main Copper Terrace sidewalk and have your child walk on their own to class from there, or meet you there for pick-up after school. Outside of school times, owners are responsible for the containment of dogs (via leash or in vehicle) and removal of all pet waste. All other animals are prohibited from District property without prior District approval.

Thanks so much for your help in keeping our students safe!

Student Store

Our student store will resume on Wednesday, September 6th! It will be located in doorway of the Edy side courtyard (the courtyard with the big metal tree) from 2:15-2:45 pm . The student store sells small trinket items and will accept coins, small bills, checks made out to Ridges Elementary PAC or Venmo to @RidgesPAC. If you aren’t able to visit on the 6th, no worries, our student store will be open on Wednesdays two times a month (from 1:15-1:45 once early release days begin) for the remainder of the school year. We will also have student only morning student store for bus riders and other early arrivals from 7:30-7:50 am each Friday following the Wednesday student store dates. Our first morning student store will be Friday, September 8th. Please see the "Upcoming Dates" section at the bottom of my newsletter for future student store dates.

Thank you PAC

Today our amazing Ridges PAC treated our entire staff to coffee and baked treats! We are so thankful for their continued support of our school. I know our entire staff felt loved and appreciated today. Thank you for always going the extra mile to make Ridges an amazing place to work.

Ridges Spirit Days

Once a month we will have Ridge Spirit Days. These are days when students are encouraged to wear Ridges gear, or our school colors, to show our Ridges Pride. Every student will receive a Ridges shirt for our Fun Run at the end of the month. If you are interested in purchasing additional Ridges gear, our online store can be found linked here. Go Wolves!

District Newsletter

Our most recent District Newsletter with additional information about transportation, school meals, volunteers and more, can be found linked here

Volunteers

The District will be welcoming volunteers back into our school buildings this year. All volunteers will need to complete and have an approved background check on file prior to volunteering (this must be renewed each school year). The background check process can take 7-10 business days, so please allow sufficient processing time if you are planning to volunteer for a specific event.

Ridges Volunteers will also need to sign up in the HelpCounter System. That information can be found below.

Help-Counter Volunteer Information

Our Ridges Parent Advisory Committee (PAC)is creating an updated email list for school information and other ways to support our school. If you are looking to volunteer at Ridges this year, please sign up using the link shared here. If you are new to the Ridges you will need to create a new login. Past volunteers can use their old sign in. (Please note that this link does not work well on your phone so you will need to use another device).

ALL parents will need to fill out their information each year. The registration will also ask some questions about volunteer preferences, so please take a minute to answer those as well.
