Welcome to Austin High School's Community Newsletter where we share all of the important information, amazing activities, and events occuring on our campus with our BULLDOG Family and community! CAMPUS TESTING INFORMATION
DECEMBER EOC RESULTS
December STAAR EOC results will be available in the family portal on January 24th, 2023. Please visit texasassessment.gov and enter your student’s unique access code, date of birth, and first name to access their results. Your student’s access code is available on Skyward or on any score report you have received. The next testing opportunities for English I, English II, US History, and Biology are in April. The Algebra I test will be held at the beginning of May.

TEACHER OF THE MONTH
Ms. Victor has a long-standing commitment to teaching and leading award-winning orchestras. Currently in her sixth year as Director of Orchestras at Stephen F. Austin High School in Fort Bend ISD, she has led several school programs to numerous awards and performances. Highlights include Stephen F. Austin Full Orchestra performance at Midwest Clinic Chicago (2018); Austin High School String Orchestra TMEA Honor Finalist (2019); Austin High School String Orchestra National Winner in Mark of Excellence Competition (2020) and finalist in The American Prize contest. Prior to this, she served as the Director of Orchestras at Sartartia Middle School in Fort Bend ISD for 16 years, leading that program to win various teaching and musical leadership awards while traveling the country and the world to compete in various competitions and performances.
PARAPROFESSIONAL OF THE MONTH
I am married - my husband Charles is a UPS driver and I have two sons, Jake (AHS Class of 2018) and Chase (AHS Class of 2021). We have two dogs, a Blue Heeler named Bindi and a Red Heeler named Lucy, that love to walk and play fetch with tennis balls. In my free time, I like to watch horror movies and I love Aggie football! I also like crossword puzzles, am always reading a book, and love the beach. I also like to volunteer and help out around Austin High School. GO BULLDOGS!

AIME math qualifiers
The following 4 students have qualified for the AIME (American Invitational Mathematics Exam) that is taking place on Wednesday, February 15th from 12:30 – 4:30 PM.
This is a huge honor and you can only qualify for this prestigious exam if your scores on the AMC (American Mathematical Competition) were high enough (i.e. their score had to be in the top 5% of the AMC 12 test or top 2.5% of the AMC 10 test).
Congratulations to our DAWG Qualifiers! We wish you all good luck on the Exam!!

AHS Boys Relays are headed to STATE!
Your Bulldog Swim Team killed it this past weekend and are heading back to STATE! Congrats to Kyle Kulow for finishing 2nd and qualifying for the STATE meet in Austin, Texas Feb 17th and 18th besting his own team record by 5 seconds. The Boys Medley, 200 free and 400 free relays of Kyle Kulow, Lloyd Gomez, Eric Qui and Ivan Pidgirsky all finished 5th and are awaiting callups to State– results will be known on Tuesday evening. Kyle Kulow broke the team record with a best time in the 400 free relay as well. All three relays shattered team records. Sophomore Lloyd Gomez finished 5th in the 100 breast with a best time of a 57.91 with another potential call up. Eric Qui finished 8th in the 100 fly and Ivan Pidgirsky finished 8th in the 100 back with a best time. Olive Norian finished 15th in the 200 free and 16th in the 100 fly with a best time and breaking the 1:00 barrier. Issac Mangum threw down another best time in 500 free dropping 4 seconds and finished 13th in the 100 fly with a best time. Reid Thompson finished 13th in the 100 breast. The girls 400 free relay of Olive Norian, Addison Blackburn, Teresa So and Ynhu (E-new) Nguyen finished 14th in the 400 free relay. Diver Georgii Kotov’s 11th place finish in diving on Thursday helped the team finish 8th overall in one of the fastest regions in the State. If you are interested in ordering a STATE shirt please see Coach North. Orders will close on Tuesday. Congrats to these amazing and talented swimmers and diver for such a great season. WE aren’t done yet. WE will be taking orders for STATE shirts. Orders close on Tuesday.

Houston Area Model United Nations Competition
This past Thursday and Friday, the Austin High School Model UN Club competed at the Houston Area Model United Nations competition at the University of Houston, bringing home 1 research award".
Could we also move the next general meeting to Wednesday, February 22 as there are many club meetings taking place this week and I also want to introduce officer positions at the end of February so they can complete applications during March

Senior year is moving fast! I have quite a bit of information for you.
Senior trip: If you want to go on the senior trip, the first two buses are full. We are now taking payments for the third bus. Go to the Class of 2023 on Revtrak. Prom tickets: If you want to purchase a prom ticket, but not the senior package, individual tickets and guest tickets will go on sale in January for $100 each. Non AHS Guests must be UNDER 21 and will need to fill out a form to attend the prom. Prices will go up after January 31st. Ticket sales end April 30th.

Safety and Security in schools: Emergency Procedures for Students with Disabilities
During your student's ARD meeting, feel free to discuss the following information pertaining to safety:
-campus plan for all students
-campus plan specific to your student's needs
-campus drills
-any other safety concerns that need to be addressed within the ARD meeting
Grants for Special Education Students
Families of qualifying students will receive online accounts to purchase goods or services that help their student access public school and/or health related services at home or where care is provided.
SSES+ accounts begin with a $5,000 grant. Families are able to request additional funds for more expensive items through TEA. This form is only available through the SSES+ award email.
There is currently enough funding for all students who are identified as medically fragile. This funding is separate and apart from the current SSES program.

Whole Child Health Initiative
Topic: As a part of the Whole Child Health Initiative, Fort Bend ISD is excited to present our February parent webinar: “Study Habits & Test Anxiety”. This webinar will equip parents and caregivers will with research-based strategies and tools to help students be better prepared for school, state, and national assessments. Information about test anxiety symptoms, current district and campus-based support systems to address it, and best practices regarding how to lower and/or minimize it will also be shared. The parent webinar will be held on Wednesday, February 15th at 6 p.m. Whole Child Health, focuses on Whole Child Health, is aligned with FBISD's Profile of a Graduate, and is committed to supporting and developing the mental, behavioral, social, emotional, and physical health of all students in FBISD.

STUDENT PARKING PERMITS
Hello Senior and Junior Students.
As we return for the 2022-23 School Year, Senior Students will have the opportunity to purchase Preferred Parking for $75; all other student parking(Senior/Junior) will cost $50.
To purchase parking all seniors and juniors must have:
Completed the online application
A Valid Texas Driver's License
Valid Insurance showing the student's name as an insured driver
No outstanding fines on the AHS Fine List
Must be on record as a Junior/Senior by August 2022

Students who have purchased their parking permits for the 2022-23 school year can come and pick them up on August 8 and August 9, 2022 in office 108 between 1:00 PM and 3:30 PM.
Juniors can pick up their parking permits when school starts in office 108 during lunch only and before August 12.
To pick your permit up you must bring:
A copy of the parking permit rules signed by a parent.
A photocopy of your receipt.

Dear AHS Parents,
Welcome back to another Exciting Year at Austin High School, Home of The Bulldogs!!
We would like to share some information with you regarding Morning Student Drop-Off.
The best time to drop your student off at AHS with little to no traffic is usually between 7:00 AM and 7:15 AM. After 7:15 AM the traffic flow becomes heavy and students risk being late to 1st period.
Areas for Drop-Off: Front Circle and Student Parking Lot Area (Northside of the Building)
Please Do Not Attempt To Drop Your Student Off on The Bus Ramp Side of the Building, That is Not Allowed, this area is for School Vehicles and School Personnel Only!
