WES November Gratitude and Kindness Message from your WES Counselors
Expressing gratitude is one of the best behaviors we can teach and model to children. It helps when we are in chaotic situations, so that our children can see, even with the chaos, they are appreciated and are seen. Expressing gratitude helps to live in the present moment with ourselves and others. November is a time for self- reflection of what we are thankful for. Let’s live in the moment of gratitude as we come upon the Christmas Holiday chaos and stress that the holidays can bring upon. Let’s think about the here and now. Here are some gratitude activities for November that you can do at home! Let’s spread kindness and gratitude from inside the walls of our school to outside in our homes and our communities.
· Gratitude Jar: Write down notes on what we are grateful for and place them in a jar. Model the activity for the children by filling out slips of paper with things you are grateful for also. It can be very simple as you are grateful to see the different colors of the leaves and the cooler weather. You can read the messages at a family dinner.
· Gratitude Nature Walk: This activity can foster Mindfulness and living in the present moment of what we feel, hear, smell and see when we take time to look at our surroundings. Living in the present moment and focusing on the here and now is also a great way to lower our stress levels.
· Make Thank-You Cards: Telling and Showing others that we are thankful for what they do for us is a great way to show gratitude. Not only does this make the other person happy, but it also provides us with a sense of peace.
Happy November! Show Gratitude, live in the moment and Show Kindness wherever and whenever we can.
We are grateful for all of you,
Your WES Counselors

World Kindness Day
We will be observing World Kindness Day/ Red Cardigan Day on Monday, November 14th.
World Kindness Day is an international observance. On this day people are encouraged to express their kindness by wearing red. Mister Rogers' is still such a mentor to many, he showed us how to show kindness and gratitude to others. His message is still very relevant and important today. Mister Rogers' Cardigan Day was established in the spirit of Fred Rogers. Wear your red and let's celebrate the kindness we show to ourselves, others and our community. We show our kindness daily to others through our words and actions at WES. It's always A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood here at WES.
World Kindness Day will also kick off the WES "I" in KIND initiative. We will be looking for those students who exhibit kindness to others. When we see these acts of kindness, students will have their picture taken as they become the "I" in Kind. These pictures will be posted on the Weirton Elementary Facebook page and also in our WES Story.
“There are three ways to ultimate success: The first way is to be kind. The second way is to be kind. The third way is to be kind.” Fred Rogers
