From the Magnet School Director
We had another fun and amazing week celebrating the upcoming holidays. We want to take a moment to thank our families for choosing Hobby Health Science Magnet. We have had an amazing first semester and hope your children are enjoying this experience as much as our team is! Ms. Canales 5th period class assisted with delivering our socks and hygiene kits. We couldn’t have done it without your continued support! Allowing the students to understand the depth of the needs of our community was very impactful as we dropped off the donations. We have some great events planned for the spring and are looking forward to continuing to see our students grow academically and personally. We want to wish everyone a wonderful Holiday season!
Mission
We will transform the learning experience within our inclusive community.

Remember bugs like to make a home in your mucous secretions (Boogers). Blow your nose instead of snorting it up and swallowing them, when coughing- spit it out in a tissue and throw it away in the trash can.
Our stomachs do not digest mucous therefore, one will eventually have diarrhea or vomit the mucous secretions.

Anytime you have a student who is in need, please follow the below instructions. There are three locations in San Antonio that our clients can go to. We partner with UIW, and they have two locations in the medical center, one on the east side of San Antonio and one on the west side of San Antonio.
Any time you have a student that needs assistance with an eye exam and glasses, we would need the following requested information from the school nurse the child attends - (You can forward the email back to us and just type in the information):
Student Name:
School and Grade:
Date of Birth:
Address:
Parent or legal guardian:
Phone:

Statement: Brief explanation why student needs glasses and why family cannot afford
After we receive your email and have determined the child is eligible we will scan and email a voucher back to you to give to the parent on behalf of the student. The parent or guardian of the student will have to call and make the actual appointment to take the student in and get their eyes checked and a pair of glasses at no cost to the family.

Library
Some of our incredible scholars got to come into the library and decorate some winter cookies during flex because they didn’t have any missing assignments. Just look at all the fun we had!
And even more of our wonderful students got to decorate cookies for our teacher and staff luncheon!
Hawk Book Boxes Take Flight After the Break!
Have students who love to read? Or maybe ones that you would like to try and get excited for reading?
Then the Hawk Book Box is something you’ll definitely want to encourage them to sign up for. Starting January 4th students will be able to sign up for a Hawk Book Box. In the box students will get 2 library books curated just for them along with a snack and some fun surprises.
Only 20 students will be permitted to participate for each of the months of January, February, and March. It is first come, first serve, so if you have students that are interested be sure to send them to Mrs. Fox asap. Students will only be able to participate once a year, that way we can get more students involved.
After students sign up, Mrs. Fox will flag them for flex, so they can fill out their questionnaire. And then, after some library magic, book boxes will be delivered to classes a week or so later. Students will return library books when they are done reading them, but can keep all the goodies inside the box.
Box themes for each month are as follows:
January-Winter
February-Love
March-Spring
