Banneker Principal Weekly Update

February 6 - February 10

A Message from the Principal

Greetings Banneker Families,

This is your principal, Robert L. Carter with the Banneker Principal Weekly Update. I hope everyone had a great weekend. This week I am flipping the newsletter to put a focus on what the research says about family engagement.

"Listening to students, families, and community members helps school districts and community partners improve their policies and practices because of what they learn. Families are experts on their children, their culture, and their neighborhoods. They know what would make their community a better place to live and raise children" - Karen Mapp Everybody Wins (2022)

Click into the newsletter to see how you can engage with us through social media. Additionally, if you haven't seen your child's report card from last quarter, make sure to open ParentVUE and acknowledge the report card. Let's have a great week together.

Social Media Opportunities

I would like to bring two social media opportunities to your attention. I'm excited to announce a Banneker Alumni facebook group. If you feel compelled to join, please use the QR code that is pictured. The purpose of this group is to collect stories and pictures that celebrate the 75-year history of Banneker. Feel free to promote it with your other social media connections- former students, parents, staff, and volunteers. Group members won't automatically have access to your profile. You can join without becoming "friends" with those who are in the group. Pictures and stories have already begun to be posted on the group. The other social media invitation is to complete the PADLET that is embedded here. Mr. Moss has decided to take the rest of the year off to take care of his father out of state. While I am working hard to find a great PE substitute, we want to let Mr. Moss know that we are continuing to stay active. Please use this PADLET to wish him well and to show him how you are staying active. CLICK HERE. I will keep this padlet open for well wishes for Mr. Moss. If you haven't seen your child's report card from last quarter, make sure to open ParentVUE and acknowledge the report card. Let's have a great week together.

PTO CORNER

Quick reminder that the the PTO sponsored Friendship Party is this Friday! Thank you so much to everyone who has RSVP’d so far. We have had an amazing response and it’s looking like we are going to have a full house of happy kids ready to have fun!

Please let the PTO know if you still need to RSVP. We are just trying to get a basic headcount to make sure we have enough food and drinks for everyone!

On a side note, if you have a child who wants their hair styled before the party, please contact Ms. Tameshia Warner because she has graciously offered her services!

Can’t wait to see you all there!

We Need You

Banneker is looking for a site-based substitute to report to Banneker each day from 7:10am-2:30pm to support classrooms when teachers are out.

Banneker is also looking for a Long Term Sub for the PE position while Mr. Moss is out.

If you know of any parent who is interested, please have them contact me. Thank you.
