Parents please make sure your child reads at least 30 minutes every night. Research says if a student reads every day for at least 20 minutes a day, they will hear 1.8 million words a year, and are more likely to score better than 90% of their peers. MPE CHARACTER PARADE
It’s our annual BOOK CHARACTER parade time again. Each year has been more amazing than the last. We want to see what you can do with a little imagination to transform your child into one of their favorite book character! It can be a book that was read at school or one of their favorites from home.
1. Books and costumes need to reflect grade level appropriate materials. Please talk to your child about their choices and remind them that this is not a Halloween costume parade.
o Some example: Harry Potter series, Gary Paulson, R.L. Stein books or maybe the American Girls series would be great for the upper grades and Fly guy, Magic Tree House or Encyclopedia Brown & Katie Woo would be on the middle grade level and of course Picture books are perfect for everybody!
o Topics that involve extreme violence, or a book by an adult level author [ie. Stephen King books] are not elementary level reading materials.
o Inappropriate choices may not participate in the parade.
2. Students should have the book with them during the parade, or a self-made drawing of the book cover.
3. Full face masks may not be worn during the parade.
4. Movie Characters are not allowed unless they are based on a book that the student can carry in the parade.
Important Dates:
1. Monday, October 21st: deadline to turn in entry card that is coming home in take home folder soon, for your Book/Character to your teacher
2. Monday Oct 28th: get ready to rock the MPE Character Parade
Parents are welcome to watch the parade in the designated area in front of the school. We look forward to seeing everyone at the parade!

From the Principal
This month, we have two early release days scheduled on October 7th and 18th. The afternoons of both days are dedicated for parent conferences. If you want to meet with your child's teacher, please reach out to them to set up an appointment.
We also have the first quarter grading period ending on Friday, October 11th. If you have concerns about your child's progress academically or behaviorally, I ask you communicate with your child's teacher right away.
I want to invite you to participate in our MPE Social Media Challenge. I am sure you have noticed our weekly stories posted on myYouTube Channel. I would really love to see you post pics of you and your child reading together, doing homework, and/or working on Dream Box or I-Station. If you accept our challenge, simply take a picture and post it on your social media accounts using our school hashtag #PAWSitivePanthers2020. I search our hashtag every week then I add posts to our weekly story. I hope you will join me in telling our story and showing the world all the wonderful things going on at MPE!
Your Proud Principal,
Dr. Martinez
