Sickle Cell Disease
By:Grace McCarthy
The sickle cell is a recessive trait
Meaning the dominate trait is not having this desease. When both parents hand down the recessive trait the only way they could have the disease is if they are heterozygous recessive meaning they have two recessive traits. Children who get one trait are called carriers and it is not harmful but they can pass it on the their children.
What is a sickle cell
This disease makes the red blood cells in you body become stiff and angular causing them to get stuck in small capillaries. When this happens it backs up blood flow and can be highly dangerous. It can stop the blood flow to your important organs such as heart, liver, kidney and lungs.
