December 2015

A Note from the Principal

It is hard to believe it is December! I'm excited that our "TEAM" (Together Everyone Achieves More) School Wide Expectations is almost completely introduced to the students, and is having a positive affect on our school! Each Monday we all gather in the gym for our morning announcements. During this time, we discuss one setting of the expectation matrix and what it looks like to be respectful, responsible and safe in that setting. During the week students are able to earn "TEAM" cards when they are seen being respectful, responsible and safe. Card winners that are chosen at the Monday announcements, come up and choose a prize and are the students who say the Pledge of Allegiance for the remainder of the week. Teachers also work throughout the week with their students to discuss, model and essentially teach the behaviors that are expected. Part of our school mission is that our students will grow emotionally, socially, and function as responsible citizens. The "TEAM" School Wide Expectations are helping us achieve our mission!

Thank you to all of you who completed the "Speak Up Survey". This survey is different from the "Family Friendly" survey that was sent out earlier in the year. If you haven't completed it, please do so before December 18th. Attached is the link for your convenience.

I hope all of you have a wonderful, restful holiday break with your families!

Dream. Learn. Achieve.

A Note From PTO President, Mrs. Cheuk

As this year comes to a close, I want to say thank you to all the parents, guardians, teachers and staff members for your enormous support and encouragement. I feel so fortunate to be a part of a community that works together to provide enrichment and inspiration to all of our children. Together everyone does Dream, Learn and Achieve more. I am looking forward to our continued partnership in making Cooks Corners Elementary School a place where all children will reach their full potential.

I wish you and your families a wonderful holiday season filled with happiness, love and good health.

Sincerely,

Amy Cheuk

PTO President

Car Line!

Beginning Monday, December 7th, we will implement a car line for parent pick up at dismissal. This will replace the current procedure allowing parents to enter the building and sign their children out from the library.

Starting Monday, buses will be dismissed before the car line dismissal begins at 3:25 p.m. After the majority of the buses leave, we will begin the car line. Cars will enter through the Campbell Street entrance, forming 2 lines parallel to Campbell Street. As you approach the turn, one car will move forward, alternating lines to form one line parallel to the school where teachers will begin to walk students to their respective car. Please note that you should have the attached name card visible on your visor so we can quickly identify your car and keep the line moving. If your child needs help with a seatbelt, please pull forward to assist them with their seatbelt, as to also keep the line moving. It is imperative that if a bus should arrive during the car line, you must yield to the bus. Parking and walking up to get your child is strongly discouraged.

Thank you for your assistance and patience in helping to make dismissal safe!
