Camp HERO
Week 2: Blast From The Past
Looking forward to week 2
It is hard to believe the first week of camp is over, but it is and we are off to a great start! Between life-sized board games, pool days, and playing outside we hope the campers are having as much fun as we are. This week, the different age groups chose a superhero name for their club, and the results are quite fun!
Junior Club: BLACK HAWK WARRIORS
Junior Intermediate Club: HULK SMASH
Senior Intermediate Club: KID FLASH BOMBERS
Senior Club: TURTLE POWER
The first week of camp can be an adjustment for everyone, but we hope your children are ready and excited about week 2!
Our theme for week 2 is "Blast from the Past." Here is a look at the plans for the week:
Monday
DRESS UP DAY: Do you have any poodle skirts hiding away? Can't bring yourself to let go of that special tie dye shirt? Are your leg warmers collecting dust and begging to see the light of day again? Well, pull out all the stops and let your kid come to camp dressed up in an outfit reminiscent of decades past! Dress up days are fun for everyone and we cannot wait to see what your kids wear on Monday! Monday will also be the day your children pick their activity club.
Tuesday
SWIM DAY: As with all swim days, please send your child to camp wearing their swim suit, a cover up, and shoes. Also, remember to pack a change of clothes and tennis shoes for when we get back to camp. We ask that your child always be wearing tennis shoes at camp for safety reasons. Children not wearing sneakers may have to sit out during some games to avoid injuries.
Wednesday
MOVIE DAY: In the morning, we will be going to see "The Croods", so please have your children at camp by 9:00 am. If you would like your child to have a snack pack (popcorn and a drink) during the movie, they cost $5. If you do choose to purchase one for your child, please give the money to Katelyn, Shelby, or Perry by the time you drop off your child Wednesday morning. We have to call ahead and let the theatre know how many snack packs we will be needing, so it is extremely important for us to have the money early.
TIE DYE: In the afternoon, we will be tie dying shirts and socks. Each child may bring one white shirt and one pair of socks to dye that day. Please make sure to label both items with your child's first and last name in permanent marker and send the items in a plastic grocery sack. These items can be dropped off as early as Monday morning, if you choose. Also, please send your child in clothes you do not mind getting messy/stained- the dye has the possibility to get on more than just the items being dyed.
Thursday
FIELD TRIP TO GRAND STATION: Thursday, we will head to Grand Station for laser tag and glow-in-the-dark putt-putt. Please have your child wear their new Camp HERO shirt (Batman logo) for this trip. If your child has not yet received their shirt, they will be given one Thursday morning when they get to camp. Children do not need to bring any money for this field trip. In the afternoon, we will have glow bowling set up for the campers in one of the classrooms.
Friday
POOL DAY: Please see the pool day comments from above.
Also if you feel more comfortable about your child wearing a lifejacket we prefer that you please send your child with their own lifejacket due to our limited supply of extras.
Notes for everyday:
Our days at camp are hot and long. While we do conduct most of our activities inside, we do spend time out on the playground in the sun every day. Please send your child to camp with a water bottle and discuss with them the importance of staying hydrated. If you would like us to remind your child to put on sunscreen or bug spray that you provide, we are happy to do so!
We sincerely hope your kids are having fun at camp and we cannot wait to see what the rest of the summer has in store! Have a great weekend and we will see you on Monday!
Your Camp HERO Leads,
Perry and Shelby
