Mid-Quarter Grades

Mid-Quarter Grades went home with your child on Friday. You might have noticed that there were lots of holes...we spend a good portion of the beginning of the school year learning daily routines and expectations. We will recently taken our first math unit exam, a reading unit exam, and will start writing narratives this week! We have been very busy and will continue at a quick pace. I will be in touch with you to discuss any concerns that I have with your child up to this point and we will put some interventions in place. IF YOU HAVE CONCERNS PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CONTACT ME! I won't get a chance to sit down and talk with each of you until Parent Teacher Conferences the first week of November.

Lyon is having a box top collecting contest between all of the grade levels. The group that brings in the most box tops by September 22nd will win extra recess. Please send in those box tops! Keep sending them in! It looks like a close competition between first and third grade, and we would LOVE to win!

Attendance Update

For the week of 9/8-9/15 our classroom attendance percentage was 99.1%! WOW! Thank you for emphasizing to your child how important it is to be at school. Friday alone we took a spelling test, a math test, a reading test, and a social studies test.

This week we are working on sorting things into groups and categories based on attributes.

This week we are working to get our ideas on paper. We will be starting our unit on narratives. Students will be writing a personal narrative (a story with a beginning, middle and end, characters and a setting). We will spend time focusing on "small moments" that happen in a story that will make it more interesting to the reader.

This week we are starting Unit 2 in math. It will focus on addition and strategies that we can use to help us solve addition problems. We will also begin working with story problems. This portion of the unit will take 2 weeks and we should be ready to assess next Friday.
