Welcome to October!
Let's get spooky!
'Tis the season for reading!
Last month at the Upper Skagit Library we...
...held a Back-to-School Guessing Jar Contest!
Congratulations to Josiah Rider for winning the Back-to-School Guessing Jar full of fun school supplies. Josiah guessed the correct amount of items in the jar!
...had some troublemakers who got caught reading banned books!
Traditionally, September's celebration of Banned Books is only a week - September 23rd through 29th. Here at the Upper Skagit Library we celebrated all month long!
...created a mugshot booth to showcase our local Banned Readers!
This month folks came by the Library, picked up their favorite banned books, and took selfies in our 'Mugshot Booth!' Want to see them? Follow the hashtag #USLBannedReaders on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram!
...held a Banned Book-in-a-Jar contest!
Congrats to Chelsea Allen, Tina Warren, Athea Warren, Tera Becker, Teresa Bettikofter, Erin Meyer, and Charles Rocker & "Ju Ju" - they all guessed the name of the Banned Book-in-a-Jar! All of the winners got to pick out two bookmarks made by Tess!
For those who missed out - the answer was "Of Mice and Men."
...asked "What Does the Freedom to Read What You Choose Mean to You?"
All month long banned readers filled out note cards telling us what the freedom to read what you choose means to them. Here's our finished display!
... celebrated International Talk Like a Pirate Day on Sept. 19th!
This month at the Upper Skagit Library
Storytime is back!
Families are welcome to join Ms. Beth every second and fourth Saturday of each month for stories and a simple craft from 11 a.m. to noon.
Skagit Reads 2018 - The Soul of an Octopus by Sy Montgomery
Upper Skagit Library is participating in Skagit Reads again this year. What is Skagit Reads? Skagit Reads is a project that brings readers from across the county together to engage with one book. For Fall 2018, we are reading The Soul of an Octopus by Sy Montgomery!
From the publisher: “In this astonishing book from the author of the bestselling memoir, The Good Good Pig, Sy Montgomery explores the emotional and physical world of the octopus—a surprisingly complex, intelligent, and spirited creature—and the remarkable connections it makes with humans.”
To learn more about this exciting book, take a look at these websites:
