A Resource for Families, Week of June 8th
Dear Families,
Welcome to Week 13! This week our reading features series books and our writing is focused on "How-To" or directions.
Resources For Conversations About Race and Racism: In the letter to families earlier this week, I indicated our school counselors, school psychologists, and social worker in the district were compiling resources to support conversations with children about race and racism. You can find these resources by clicking HERE. The link to the resource Mrs. Linse created can be found HERE. If you need any additional support in having these conversations, please feel free to reach out to our school counselor or school psychologists.
Bitmoji Guess Who Answers: We hope you had fun trying to figure out who was who in the Bitmoji picture last week. Your child can check his or her answers by looking at the picture below :).
Summer Smore: Next week, we will be introducing you and your child to our Summer Smore resources. This will be what children use on the last two days of school (June 15th and 16th) and they can continue to use it throughout the summer. It will provide children with many choices and resources to engage them in continued learning in reading, writing, and math throughout the summer months. Our intention for the 15th and 16th is to allow time for the children to become familiar with the Summer Smore and check in with their teacher to ask any questions they may have about it.
Virtual Field Days: One of the fondest memories students have from elementary school is spending time with their classmates participating in group activities during Field Days. The K-6 PE teachers are excited to announce that starting Monday, June 8th using the Glide PE app, we will be hosting virtual Field Days! The activities will be family-oriented games/challenges. We encourage everyone to social distance and to only share equipment with those you are quarantined with. Our PE teachers will continue to communicate with families through the PE website, Twitter page, Facebook account, YouTube channel and app. The app will be the main source of information for field days. Using the listed social media outlets, PE teachers will highlight certain videos each day while families will be able to browse the full list of activities via the app starting June 8th. Field Day information can be found on the following platforms:
- App:https://vcshpe.glideapp.io/

Progress Reports: Progress reports will be sent electronically to families on June 18th. Given the school closure and the directive from the New York State Education Department to hold children harmless related to grading during this time, all academic areas will be marked with an N/A. Comments will include a list of the content that was included in distance learning resources, as well as comments from your child's classroom teacher.
To Our Third Graders (Who we will miss SOOO MUCH next year!): HERE is a special gift for our third-grade children who will be going to the Intermediate School next year from your third-grade teachers - we are so proud of you and will miss you!!
We wish you all the best this coming week and are here for you!
With Gratitude,
Jen Check
