Assistant Principal's corner

Dear BEN Bolt Community,

November has flown by and now we are into the month of December in which we have an opportunity to give back as a school community. I am excited to announce that we are going to be introducing Number Ninjas, and everyone can participate in at home activities to help their Math application and problem-solving skills with their families. Please read the information below and secure a printed copy of the December activity, by using the google form and QR code below.

Please consider partnering with us in our Color a Smile initiative and our Do Good December project as well. We look forward to spreading kindness and cheer this December and wish you all a very happy, safe and healthy Holiday season.

If you have an idea or would like to get involved in some of our upcoming initiatives, please do not hesitate to reach out to me. We welcome your help, and support.

Thank you,

Dr. Nieves

Color a Smile

Big picture

We are excited to spread some much needed Holiday cheer and well-wishes as a BEN Bolt Community.

All families can be a part of this project and we are looking forward to seeing your pictures and holiday cards.

What is Color A Smile: Color A Smile is a non-profit organization that provides greeting cards all year round to veterans, soldiers overseas and children who are in the hospital during the holiday season.

If you would like to participate in Color a Smile, the templates are being sent out via Blackboard.

Please color as many greeting cards as you would like to with your family. We ask that you do not use glitter.

Please make sure that when your student(s) signs the card that only their FIRST name is on it.

Then, please drop off your holiday greeting cards by December 10th, in a box that will be housed right outside of the main entrance. We will be mailing out all greeting cards on or about December 9, 2022.

If you would like to take a picture of your family working on their greeting cards, please send the picture to Mr. Tenebruso at

Thank you for partnering with us,

Dr. Nieves

Colorea Una Sonrisa

Ms. Crowley's class also got to complete a Thanksgiving themed STEM challenge with Balloons Over Broadway. We read and learned all about the life of Tony Sarg, the origin of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, and got to design and build our own balloon for the parade. Great work, engineers!

Class Read Aloud of Molly's Pilgrim & Turkey Trouble

Mrs. Babst's Class celebrated Thanksgiving in many different ways. One way was reading different Thanksgiving stories. One story our class read was Turkey Trouble written by Wendi Silvano. In this story Turkey has an idea—what if he doesn't look like a turkey? What if he looks like another animal instead? After many hilarious attempts, Turkey comes up with the perfect disguise to make this Thanksgiving the best ever! Our class then made our own Turkey's in Disguise. We had many creative Turkey disguises like Spiderman, Snowman, Basketball Player, and many other wonderful disguises.

Our class also read the story Molly's Pilgrim written by Barbara Cohen. This story is about an immigrant girl who comes to identify with the story of the Pilgrims, as she seeks religious freedom and a home in a new land.
