Message from Mr. Nieslanik
As we step into the 2017-18 school year it is important that our families and community better understand our why. Why are we here? Why do we do what we do? Our why can be defined in our shared values and in our benchmarks. Our shared vision reads, "As we create opportunities together, we EMBRACE academics, creativity, relationships and diversity, we INSPIRE involvement in the local and global community, and we EMPOWER innovation and lifelong learning." Our why is simple--to inspire, embrace and empower our students to be compassionate graduates who learn from and appreciate the connection between school, community and world.
To ensure we are always moving forward in our collective why, we have identified three benchmarks to guide our work:
- Increase the number of students accessing IB/AP courses and, at the same time, decrease the achievement gap by increasing the accessibility to rigorous courses for ALL students.
- Increase student connections in classrooms and engagement to co-curricular opportunities that allow a diverse student body to explore their interests, challenge themselves, and have a voice in their community.
- Increase opportunities for staff, parent, and community collaboration that are meaningful, relevant and supportive of the Southridge community.
We are very excited about the start of a new year, full of potential. I will report out on our progress, and I know you will continue to join along side us to create opportunities for our students.
Until next time,
David
