Caldwell School District Update
From Superintendent N. Shalene French
February 17, 2021
Elementary school schedules will change after Spring Break; Secondary schools schedules will stay in hybrid
Last week, we surveyed parents and students about your comfort levels with a potential change to increase in-person learning time for our students.
We appreciate the nearly 1,700 parents and more than 1,700 students who took the survey and shared their thoughts. (You may review this feedback online here.) Our teachers and support staff provided their feedback the previous week.
The feedback from all groups was mixed. There is support for expanding in person learning, however, many expressed concerns about maintaining physical distance when more students are present and expressed their frustration in dealing with another disruption in their schedule.
On Monday, the Board of Trustees discussed the feedback and other COVID-19 related information and decided to:
Expand in-person instruction for Elementary Students in grades K-5. They will now attend four full days each week with Wednesdays remaining an e-learning day. This new schedule will begin after spring break on Monday, March 29. Note: The bell schedule will change, too. Beginning March 29, elementary schools will start at 8:55 a.m. and end at 3:30 p.m.
Secondary students at Syringa Middle School, Jefferson Middle School, and Caldwell High School will remain in the hybrid schedule through the end of the school year.
Secondary students at Canyon Springs High School will continue to attend four full days each week with Wednesdays remaining an e-learning day.
We are cautiously optimistic about the improving health of our community and are gearing up to welcome our elementary students for four full days in school after spring break.
We will continue to support Canyon Springs High School students in their current schedule, as well as the students at Syringa Middle School, Jefferson Middle School, and Caldwell High School in our hybrid model for the remainder of the school year.
Sincerely,
Dr. N. Shalene French
