MCCHS FRIDAY FOCUS
71st Edition: April 20, 2018
Pilgrims on the Way of Truth
Prom Week!
Let's start with a quick look back at this week...
- Our Composition/Speech classes went on their deanery book tour this week! (See some photos below!) The books (and our young authors) were a huge hit with the elementary students!
- Our W.Y.S.E. team collected quite a bit of hardware at State this week! Shelby Truckenbrod placed 5th in Biology, Jack Popovich placed 4th in English, and Joseph Noonan placed 5th in Chemistry and 6th in Mathematics! The team overall, placed 7th in the State! Congratulations to all our Scholar-Athletes for representing Marian Central so well!
- We announced our 2018 Prom Court (see below!)
Looking ahead to the coming week...
- We wish the Cast, Crew, Directors, and countless parent-volunteers all the best this weekend with their production of Godspell Jr. This truly is a MUST-SEE show, and the smaller venue creates an unbelievable theatrical experience!
- We will be conducting our annual mandatory Police Drill this week as well. As we did last year, we will intentionally NOT pre-announce when this will take place. It is very important that our students, staff, and our local first responders experience variables that a pre-planned/pre-announced drill may not offer. When we initiate the drill, we will be very clear in our announcement that it is, in fact, a drill. The goal is to not just practice, but also to learn what needs improvement! Thank you all for your support and understanding!
- Our Physics students will be heading out to Six Flags this coming week! We wish them the best as they see physics concepts, theory, and laws in action!
- Oh...and did we mention that PROM is happening this week? Since our SENIORS sold the most raffle tickets this year, they have earned Friday, April 27th OFF SCHOOL. This means that they MUST be in attendance on Thursday, April 26th in order to participate in Prom the following evening.
Heading into the last half of the FINAL quarter...
As you know, we are doing our very best to keep all our students engaged and focused in these final weeks. We put into place the Senior Exam Exemption program to give something positive for those students to work towards and earn. But, as you can imagine, we also have to be vigilant with our expectations of our students. There has been an increased report of students out of their classrooms - heading to the bathrooms several times per day, wandering halls (taking the "long way" back to class), and sadly, still more vaping occurring on school property, despite very strict consequences being enforced with every discovered incident.
As we do with every 4th quarter (especially the final weeks) we increase our vigilance, and tighten issuance of "during-class" hall passes. If students have pre-existing medical conditions on file that require bathroom accommodations, that will not change nor be affected. We are so grateful that you support our efforts to keep our students focused, and all our attempts to reduce any disruption to the learning that is still very necessary in these final weeks.
Speaking of vaping...at the beginning of the year, we asked that all parents and guardians please discuss this terrible habit with your students. We respectfully ask that you continue those discussions - and please check your student's belongings. As parents and educators, we can only do our best to reinforce our expectations, share the facts about such choices, and be consistent with consequences. As with everything, we see this as a true partnership and we owe it to you and our students to do everything we can to keep our students safe and healthy.
