The Lost Art of the Christmas Card

Celebrate this Holiday Season with the OJAC! View the first Christmas card from 1843 and investigate the cultural, social, and technological changes that have shaped the history of this Western-European Holiday tradition. Students will briefly review the structure of a written letter (salutation, body, etc.) and then compose and illustrate a Christmas Card inspired by antique style and designs.

Classroom Telescope Observing - Exploring the Sun and Its Features

Get ready for your students to make SAFE observations of our star (the Sun) and its incredible features using telescopes from McDonald Observatory! During the videoconference, your students will briefly explore the UT McDonald Observatory via helicopter tour, make live observations of the Sun with telescopes equipped with special video cameras and solar filters (weather permitting), complete a Student Sun Drawing Sheet, and learn about the solar features they observe on the sun by watching unique science demonstrations. Telescope views will be real-time; in case of inclement weather or equipment problems, recorded views will be provided.

Found in both the northern and southern hemisphere, these trees are survivors – growing in harsh conditions, competing with the dominant flowering plants, and adapted to fire-prone environments. Join us for St. Nick's Science Show as we use hands-on demonstrations and delve into how Santa and his elves make Christmas happen.
