Fourth Grade News
Week of January 4, 2016
Happy New Year!
We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday. Thank you so much to our room moms, Carol Rooney and JJ Kornman, as well as the many parent volunteers who put together a great holiday party for all of us before the break.
Fourth Grade Play
It's that time! Each spring, the fourth grade class puts on a play just before we break for the Easter holiday. The subject and name of the play is always kept a secret from the rest of the school community until the final weeks before the performance. This week, the fourth graders will learn what this year's play is going to be, and they will be given the option to "try out" next week for one of the more verbal characters in the play. Please help us keep the subject of our play a secret by not discussing it with families outside the fourth grade! More information about the play will be sent home in the weeks ahead.
Friday's Field Trip - Chalmette Battlefield
This Friday, Jan. 8th, marks the 201st anniversary of the Battle of New Orleans fought at the Chalmette Battlefield in 1815. The fourth graders will visit the site where a hastily-assembled army of Americans worked together to accomplish the impossible---the defeat of the mighty British empire. The students will have the opportunity to meet living history experts in period dress portraying troops and civilians, and discover what life was like in 1815 New Orleans through activities and programs.
The students should wear their regular school uniform and bring a St. George's sweatshirt or jacket. A bag lunch will be provided for those students who ordered lunch. All others should plan to bring a bag lunch and drink. There will be no food or drinks available for purchase on site.
We will return to school by 2:00 p.m. for the remainder of our afternoon classes.

Spring Semester Chorus Begins!
Any students interested in participating in the Lower School Chorus are invited to join now for the second semester of the school year. Students are invited to attend a brief overview of the program during school this Tuesday and are welcome to try it out before committing. Fliers will be sent home this week to sign up.
Have a great week!
