Jump Rope for Heart
Parents, we are excited to kick off our Jump Rope for Heart event on Wednesday, February 21st! Did you know that Heart Disease is the No. 1 killer of all Americans although 80% may be prevented through lifestyle changes? Jump Rope For Heart teaches kids heart healthy habits and raises money for lifesaving research and education. The first step in helping your child become a heart hero is to jump online and register at www.heart.org/jump. There you can take one of our three health challenges, send emails and ask friends and family for donations. By participating, your child will learn about heart health, contribute to a vital cause, and earn fun prizes featuring this year’s heart health ambassadors, the Scare Squad. They’re lots of fun!
How to Register:
- Go to heart.org/jump
- Search for your school (Orchard Park Elementary, Fort Mill SC)
- Click “Sign Up” under school name
- If you participated last year, you will be able to use your old login, if not then click “I’m new” and follow the instructions on the screen to complete your set up.
You can also download the app on your phone or mobile device. Just search “jump/hoops” in your app store. Thank you for supporting the American Heart Association!
Parent Event
Please join us for this FREE informational session discussing parenting tips for managing difficult behaviors on Thursday, February 22 at 6pm.
Chess Club
Chess Club crowned a new Champion last week! Congratulations to Gibson Hollis who won the 5th Grade Chess Tournament. Mark your calendars for a 3rd/4th/5th grade tournament on Sunday, March 25th at the Village Hall in Baxter Village. Details to come.
Vision Screening
The Tega Cay Lions Club will be conducting free vision screenings for our students in kindergarten, first, third, and special services using a SPOT Welch Allyn screening device. This technology offers advantages over traditional wall charts because it’s more efficient and provides much more specific information. These screenings will take place February 21, 2018 during the school day.
- There will be no charge to participate in the screening.
- You will be contacted by the Lion’s Club with the results if your child needs to be referred to an eye care professional.
- The information obtained from this vision screening is considered a preliminary procedure only and does not constitute a diagnosis of vision problems. It should be part of a comprehensive eye care program that includes periodic eye exams.
- The parent will be responsible for arranging a full eye exam with an eye care professional if your child is referred as a result of the vision screening test.
- The Lion’s Club will not be held accountable for any errors of commission, omission or misdiagnosis.
We are very fortunate to have this program offered to us. Thanks to the Lion’s Club for their dedication to our students. Please notify me if you do not want your child to participate.
Nurse Amy
We need parent helpers to assist in one hour shifts to simply escort classes to the screening area, line students up, and take them back class. Please email opespto@gmail.com if you can help.
