The Best Middle School in the Universe!
Volume 13, Number 14 - February 25, 2019
Welcome to the BEST Middle School in the Universe!
We are on the countdown for our first STAAR test. We are making sure our students know when their big test is so they can be prepared and come in for extra help if they need help. We are changing clubs and tutoring this coming week based on our 8th Math and Reading and 7th Writing benchmark.
7th Writing and 8th Reading - Students in these grades and subjects have received their benchmark data back and will be sending home communication to you to get signed this week.
8th Math - These students in 8th Math have have taken home their benchmark information to get signed. Please take a minute to look at how they performed and contact your child's teacher if you have any questions.
The dates below are for the STAAR test, where they will be assessed on their learning. Please mark down these dates in your calendar so you can plan any appointments around them. Although April and May seem so far away, time will come quickly. We constantly tell our students, they need to go in after school for tutorials if they are having trouble or if they have any grades below an 80. Our teachers are available after school or before school for help. It is also extremely important for your child to be at school every day. If your child isn't in school, they aren't receiving instruction. If they are absent, it is important they stay after school to talk to their teachers about work they missed. If you have any questions regarding how your child is doing, please reach out to their teacher.
- 8th grade STAAR Math/Reading - Tuesday/Wednesday, April 9th/10th
- 7th grade STAAR Writing - Tuesday, April 9th
- 6th/7th grade STAAR Math/Reading - Monday/Tuesday, May 13th/14th
- 8th grade STAAR Math/Reading Retest - Monday/Tuesday, May 13th/14th
- 8th grade STAAR Science/Social Studies - Wednesday/Thursday, May 15th/16th
We will have next Cougartime as a reward for our students who have been following The Cougar Way. Students who receive a referral or after school detention from Wednesday, February 27th until Thursday, March 14th will not participate in Cougartime. Also, any student who still has not completed their Summer Reading assignment will not be participating in Cougartime and will use that time to complete their project.
Upcoming Registration - Please read below for more information. You should also be receiving email messages from our counselors.
Teacher Emails and Grades
If you cannot make it, please be on the lookout for teacher emails. Each teacher should be sending emails to you every two weeks regarding content, upcoming tests, assignments and projects. Also you should see one grade a week being entered into the grade book. Teachers updates grades on Monday by midnight so checking grades on Tuesday is something to encourage your child to do. Students can access Student Self-Serve below:

We also encourage all parents to update their Parent Self Serve as you can get updates and text messages for grades and absences. See below:
