Greetings PV Families,

The onsite plans for the recent MLK Day of Service were postponed due to the inclement weather we experienced on Monday. Students, staff, parents and community members will have an opportunity to participate in a "day on" of community service/volunteerism on February 21, President's Day. Many families participated in the take home kits, expressing their gratitude in being able to "give back" in this way.

I appreciate the efforts of those who organized the MLK Day experiences that will benefit many. The giving nature, extended goodwill, and "nothing is too much trouble" attitude are important aspects of this tradition and wonderful qualities of our community. MLK Day has proven to be a lot of fun as well as a rich and rewarding experience for our volunteers. Just as many have stepped up once again to participate in our MLK Day of Service, individuals continue to step up regularly and contribute along the course of our pandemic journey, for example in providing food to those in need. The altruistic nature of our community on MLK Day and throughout the pandemic is certainly a silver lining when up against so much challenge.

As we consider preparing our students to be future ready, it is more than the academics that are important to their success. Qualities such as compassion, empathy and effective communication are also important. All are desirable by both schools and employers. When students participate in community service and/or as volunteers, they afford themselves opportunities to nurture these qualities and develop a deeper respect for the world beyond their own.

Thank you to all who provide community service and volunteer their time and energy for the benefit of others.

Health and Safety Transition Plan Reminders: Quarantine and Isolation

The latest guidance for quarantine and isolation appears on our website: Quarantine & Isolation (includes information about Test to Stay (TTS) and Mask to Stay (MTS).

  • TTS applies to unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated STAFF identified as household close contacts, i.e., exposed to a confirmed COVID positive person in the home. In PVSD, TTS requires mask wearing daily in school and outdoors for 10 days. An antigen test is also required daily for 5-10 days after the last exposure dependent on the household member’s ability to isolate within the home. The District will administer the rapid antigen tests.
  • MTS applies to unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated STAFF and STUDENTS identified as close contacts in the school or community. In PVSD, MTS requires mask wearing daily in school and outdoors for 10 days. An antigen test is also required between days 4-6 after exposure. PVSD will administer the antigen tests onsite prior to the start of the school day.

*As a note: testing under the TTS and MTS programs is available to vaccinated individuals with special health care needs, chronic illness, or those desiring confirmation of a negative test result. It is recommended individuals wear a mask through day 10.

Reporting A Student's Positive COVID Case

To assist us in collecting data, we are asking families to report their child's confirmed positive COVID case using the form linked below. Please refrain from calling the nursing office if possible. If you are seeking medical advice, we ask that you contact your child's medical provider with questions about their health, including guidance if your child is experiencing COVID-19 symptoms. As a reminder, if your child is not feeling well or showing signs of possible COVID exposure, please keep them home until they are symptom free.

Masks Strongly Recommended Beginning 1/24/22

Beginning January 24, 2022, as per the District's updated Health & Safety Transition Plan (v3), we will be transitioning from required face coverings/masks to strongly recommended when indoors in any of our schools and facilities. All other mitigation strategies will continue to be upheld. In alignment with our mission to foster an inclusive environment, we will respect the personal choices of our students and their families.

Updated PV Calendar

The PV Calendar has been updated to reflect the inclement weather day on Friday January 7. To date, we have used two of our three built in inclement weather days.

  • End of Marking Period 3: Friday, January 28
  • End of Trimester 2: Monday, March 14

Traffic on PV Campus

In response to recent driving and traffic concerns on the PV Campus (comprised of PV High School, Middle School East, and Evergreen Elementary), you may notice increased State Police presence. Drivers are reminded to not to pass anyone while in a school zone, drive at 15 mph, and know that the crossing guard, when in the street, is in control of ALL traffic, not just one particular direction. Violators may be stopped, warned or cited.

Kindergarten Registration 22-23 School Year

Will your child turn 5 years old before September 1, 2022? If so, he/she is eligible to attend school in the Perkiomen Valley School District next fall.

PV Partners for Equity & Inclusion

The PV Partners group will commence their meetings beginning in February under the leadership of one of the District's new administrators, Mr. Steve Willis, Coordinator of Equity, Inclusion, and Community Engagement. Together with Dr. Russell, Mr. Willis will reconvene this group and lead towards equitable opportunities for all students, in all areas. The Partners group was originally formed in June 2018 and has been committed to engaging in discussions towards continuous improvement of school experiences for all students and staff.

The meeting will take place on February 8 at 7:00 pm in person and via Zoom.

As a note, in addition to always encouraging our students to share questionable or concerning information with a trusted adult, they can submit an anonymous tip through the Safe2Say Program. Tips are typically related to a variety of challenges our students experience or witness, such as bullying, harassment, disrespectful language, safety concerns, etc. When a tip is received, the State (who runs Safe2Say) immediately follows up with the respective building administrator and the information is investigated.
