"Knightly News"- September

Our Mission

At Nicolas Valley- We educate, engage, and enrich every child, every day in a safe and supportive environment.

Our Goal- To empower and equip students to be productive and responsible citizens, through the use of technology, a culture for learning, and healthy connections within the school and community.

A Note from the Principal

Greetings Nicolas Valley families,

Wow, what an amazing start to a brand new school year! I cannot begin to express how impressed I have been with all of our Knights these first couple of weeks of school. Students have been so kind and considerate of one another. They have been diligent in wearing masks while in the buildings, but excited to be able to remove them when outside. It has been exciting to all of us to walk through classrooms and see all of the students participating in engaging and meaningful lessons that combine the use of both technology and pencil/paper activities. It is truly heartwarming to have all of our students back on campus this year.

Our first two Friday Line Ups went great. Students were outside singing and cheering for their fellow teammates and award winners. Hopefully your child's teacher is sharing photos with you, especially if s/he won an award or celebrated a birthday. We look forward to when we are able to have families join us again out on the black top.

Students should have completed their iReady assessments in both language arts and math while in class already. Remember you can always access their levels and progress by logging in to their accounts. Many teachers are assigning both in class and homework lessons for iReady. This is a wonderful intervention tool that can either help remediate or extend a student's learning.

Parent-teacher conferences are scheduled for October 11-15, districtwide, but if you have questions or concerns regarding any aspect of your child's education, I encourage to reach out the the teacher prior to that. it is always better to have these discussions before frustration occurs.

As always, we are also available to answer questions or concerns you may have. You can email us at charman@tvusd.us (Chrissy Harman) or sobrien@tvusd.us (Shawna O'Brien) anytime.

Sincerely,

Ms. Harman and Mrs. O'Brien

Our goal is to keep everyone safe, healthy, and happy this year. To this end, it is of utmost importance that all parents make sure to fill out the daily Qualtrics Survey for each student attending school that day prior to entering the campus. This can be done through QR codes (to the right) on doors/gates or the child's email.

Thank you advance for being proactive in the health and well-being of all students and staff this school year!

Spirit Days

We love to show our school and team spirit here at Nicolas Valley! Every Wednesday is "team spirit" day, so make sure your students wear their team colors and earn team points. Fridays are for school spirit. Students can wear school colors or dress up in any of the "spirit" outfits that student council has chosen.

Lost and Found

We are already accumulating many items in our "lost and found" buckets. Please make sure and label all items (water bottles, lunch boxes, etc.) with first and last names as well as room number or teacher, so that we can help ensure items get returned. Also, remind your students to look on the lunch area walls or in the lost and found buckets whenever they are missing items.

Knights of the Week

Safety Before and After School- Please Use Those Crosswalks

We have over 700 students traveling to and from school each day so please remember to use crosswalks that are clearly marked. When approaching a crosswalk, please look to the crossing guard for direction. Staying on the sidewalk and inside the crosswalk helps keep everyone safe.
