A Message From the Superintendent

Hello Hingham Community,
This is a reminder that on Monday, April 24th at 7:00pm at the high school, town meeting will decide on an operational override.
If successful, the override will allow for the town and schools to adopt a level service budget. The level service budget supports the continuation of positions and programs that have been implemented over the past two years to meet the increased needs of students and to further advance our educational programs.
The positions that we will be able to maintain in the level service budget include:
Guidance counselors: To support the social-emotional needs of students at all levels
Reading and math interventionists: Provide additional instruction to students in need of one on one assistance or small group work in grades K-8
School resource officers: Continue to support a school resource officer for each education level
Elementary specialists: Specialist teachers in art, computer science, world language, music, physical education, media and library science
Kindergarten Paraprofessionals: Allowing for small group instruction and added support
If the override is not successful, the impact on the schools may include:
The elimination of up to 46.1 staffing positions:
Increased athletic fees at the high school
Increased full day kindergarten tuition
Fees implemented for:
Elementary instrumental music
High school activities
Transportation for students in grades 7-12
Elimination of freshmen/sub-varsity sports at the high school
A successful operational override will require a majority vote at both town meeting on Monday, April 24th at 7:00pm at the high school, and on the ballot on Saturday, April 29th.
A reminder that early ballot voting is available through the town via mail-in ballots. See the town website for information.
I look forward to seeing all in our community at town meeting on Monday, April 24th.
Sincerely,
Margaret Adams
